      quirky and fun bottle opener

I've just reviewed both the Paladone Happy Man Bottle Stopper and the Paladone Happy Man Corkscrew that I received as gifts on my hen weekend. When I brought them home from Dublin with me my husband ('to be' at the time) loved them and thought that they were brilliant. So for Christmas later that year I decided to get him the matching Paladone Happy Man Bottle Opener as a small stocking filler. I bought the bottle opener from Amazon, and I seem to remember paying around £5 for it.

We already had loads of bottle openers, and certainly didn't need another one, however I knew that he would love this, and that it would be brilliant at parties. We've had loads of use out of this, and he always gets brought out to open bottle of beers when friends are over. He's always a talking point, and I know that lots of our friends have gone on to buy there own little man after using ours!

He stands about 8cm tall, and he's made from a hard red plastic. He's standing legs and arms akimbo, and he has a huge grin on his little red plastic face. He does actually stand upright on his two little feet, and he doesn't wobble or fall over, despite his rather large protrusion! His rather large protrusion, his manhood, is the actual bottle opener part of him, and it is unfeasibly large! His manhood i.e. the bottle opener part juts out proudly from his little body, well 'little body' in comparison to the size of the bottle opener! The bottle opener part has a rounded end, oooh er, and it has a quite a large chunk cut out of the bottom to house the metal bottle opening mechanism. He even has cute little rounded bum cheeks!

To use the bottle opener just grip the little man and then place his manhood and the cut out chunk containing the actual bottle opening mechanism over your beer bottle cap, hook the back edge (the edge nearest the little mans belly) of the metal bottle opener under the lip of the beer bottle cap and then flip the little man upwards and forwards and the beer bottle cap will just flip off. Quick and easy.

He isn't dishwasher safe, I normally just wipe his plastic body and the metal bottle opener part over with a piece of kitchen roll. We've had him for quite a few years now and he's still in perfect condition, the bottle opener 'protrusion' is still very firmly attached to his little plastic body.

He's definitely a quirky and fun, albeit slightly rude, novelty gift. He's the perfect stocking filler for someone that you know would appreciate him. All three of the Paladone Happy Men are available for around £5 each on Amazon, and you can also get a twin pack containing both the corkscrew and the bottle stopper for around £9, so they aren't expensive. I'd definitely recommend them!

Great little novelty toy for your kitchen

I had came across Paladone Happy Man range on Amazon a few months ago when looking at the quirky gadget section on Amazon - there is a total of three to choose from - Bottle Opening, Bottle Stopper and Corkscrew - as a lady who doesn't care very much for wine (unless its very expensive pink and bubbly!) and prefers a bottle of budweiser I picked the bottle opener as I felt I would get miles more use out of it!

... And you ask why I bought this? I thought it looked very cute (as well as rude) and is a bit of a conversation starting when I have guests over! As well as the fact its a little bit different to your standard bottle opener!

When I recieved this from Amazon the Happy Man came packaged with a protective plastic molded around it which needed a scissor job to cut into - being truthful I thought this would be made out of cheap plastic and was worried it would come damaged as a result but how it has outdone my expectations in more ways than one! When you bang it down on a surface it does give you that cheap plastic clunk noise - but in actual fact its very well made and not feeble in the slightest.

Another way it has lived up to my expectations is the amount of detail on the appearance - its very funny to look at in terms of its smily happy face (eyes and mouth) moulded into the head... the tiny little hands, arms, legs and feet... and the buttocks on the back when you turn it around! Then of course the main feature - the penis shape which sticks out the front has the bottle opener carved into the middle of it. Due to Happy Man being shaped to be bent slightly backwardswith the weight of the arms on the back and the penis bottle opener on the front he actually stands up on his own balancing perfectly due to the way he is proportioned.

The shape of the Happy man in terms of torso, arms and legs make holding this in your hand whilst opening a bottle very comfortable which was unexpected - remember this was bought as a novelty item rather than an item of comfort!

So up until now, the Happy Man appears perfect in everyway... one thing I thought would really let him down was the ability to open bottles - being considered more a novelty than a practical item. The metal carved into the bottle opener like the plastic is made from good metal which is rounded off in at the sides to easily grip on to every type of bottle I have used this against. I have actually found this tends to work better at opening bottles better than a standard bottle opener from a shop!

In all - I love this! Although as previously mentioned I am not a huge wine drinker I want to buy the matching bottle stopper and corkscrew just to go with my bottle opener as I believe they would be just as good comically and practically as what I have found in this little guy!

The only issues I have had with this bottle opener are the opinions of a couple of others who think its a little bit too rude and don't see the funny side... which is my family really. My mum was a little bit disgusted in this and my Grandmother nearly choked on her false teeth when she got an eyeful of this! My 6 year old daughter however found it very funny - I did make a habit out of hiding it away from her innocent eyes but she did find it, have a little laugh about it then forgot about it. So I would just say beware around children (and older family members who may not see the funny side!)

So to sum it up - Very durable, it actually is practical and is a funny little thing to look at. I would recommend this to everyone!

        **********

At present you can buy this on Amazon for £6.50 which is about the price I had paid for it!

          Disadvantages

Not bad price although you will be looking to complete the set.

          ~~ Why This Review? ~~
I got bought this as a Father's Day present by the kids because I was always moaning about not been able to find a bottle opener when it came to opening a can of lager so they thought this looked a great way of shutting me up. To say I was pleased is an understatement as I was thrilled to give it a new home , so I thought without further ado it was time to spread the word about the little chappie.

          ~~ For my Money I Get? ~~
Well for starters you get a nice conversation piece; it's in glorious bright red, very shiny and also a dent size. Measuring a healthy 4 inches high or just shorter, by about 2.5 inches wide it's the perfect size, not too big it won't fit anywhere, not too small you can't find it.
Obviously it goes without saying where the actual bottle opener is situated, so be prepared.

          ~~ Packaging? ~~
Well mine came in a nice presentation box which was a shame to throw away.

~~ Is It Worth It? ~~
Well it's not cheap but I've seen other specialised bottle openers like a Star Trek one that was costing around £10 so for the price you pay for this - currently just over £4 on Amazon it isn't too bad.
The only thing with this bottle opener is that you will start to look through the other items to match incl a great Bottle Stopper which is next on my shopping list.
In conclusion, it's a great little item , not too expensive , well made , bright , a good talking point and more importantly ( And I haven't mentioned it yet lol) it does a good job at the job it was bought for, namely taking tops off bottles.

You can't bite The head off this Jelly baby!

          Stats: Height: 8cm - Width: 5.5cm - Penis: 5cm
Purchasing Vendor: Amazon - 5.00 GBP (not including appendage and packing).

During my kidult observant periods when man-hood was on the horizon - I gazed at football hooligans prancing around in football stadiums, arms out stretched, stomach catapulted out from their natural abdominal stance, alcohol etched on their faces; walking as if they've just done sixty screen cuts for a John Wayne cowboy film; or just about to block Reading town sewers with a gargantuan excreted log of John Smith's finest. They looked happy, but only a short fuse away from a barrage of verbal atrocities. All perplexed, I look at the Paladone's Happy Man. He'd been modeled on a highly vocal football hooligan, the only things missing is, scarf aloft, handing out provocative hand gestures to the away fans', armed with a demented grin. Now this guy would open beer bottles with his golden gnashes; the difference is Paladone's Happy Man opens beer bottles up with the shaft of his phallic plastic member. Again it is one of those tricks you play at a party in front of three tipsy ladies who then giggle uncontrollably until a bit of bile makes a rude awakening in their mouth and the trick is forgotten. A passing moment of great fun and then encompassed by flirty embarrassment - quite an achievement for a novelty act.

Oddly enough I try not to hold his plastic erection when picking it up; I prefer to throttle him by the neck initially while attempting to use his penis as a bottle opener; without touching the blood gorging helmet. There is a knack to it; it's all in the grip. I expertly slide underneath the bottle cap and with a quick jolt of anticipation from my bottom right hand the bottle cap is dislodged enough to let out a refreshing fizz from the beer bottle. Be warned of the eruptive beer head eagerly waiting to see daylight. If the eruption is uncontrolled, quickly tilt back your own head and gulp down accordingly. He seems to enjoy the male bonding session, which usually lasts no more than is necessary. - Probably ten seconds tops. He lies down afterwards, incessantly happy what his appendage has achieved; albeit with an unfortunate metal semi circle aiding the bottle cap leverage - Designed to maximize beer bottle cap removing satisfaction. The curvature of the embedded smooth metal plate eats into the shaft of the hard plastic pleasure dome, like a nasty STD.

Available for hire - No agents please!

Like all novelty items after the initial amusement, functionality is an added bonus. So, I guess the reason why I still possess this is due to it functioning satisfactory. I've had better. If left on a kitchen work surface he has the ability to break the ice with a consort. No, I don't use his endowed man-hood, or more to the point plastic-hood, as a beverage ice-breaker. The Paladone Happy Man corkscrew is far able and adept to pound ice. His plastic knob wouldn't penetrate anything frozen, for entertainment purposes only margarine and apple pie would suffice. Those with a vivid imagination, he does pose for party invitation cards, greeting cards and alike. Equipped with witticisms and obvious perks, 'Happy Man' is a big talking point at social gatherings. He gets about though; he is also available for hire - No agents please.

Socially, he is amusing and I relive my initial bemusement through other peoples' quips. He is a novelty item that recycles laughter and not many novelty items do that regularly - his loutish posture is of a football hooligan. His complexion and shape reminds me of jelly babies. His cheekiness and rudeness stipulates a Geordie on a stag weekend. But overall, like all males his only use in the kitchen is when it comes to opening bottles of beer. 'Yous got yee priorities rit aint yous!'

          3/5 stars.

            Disadvantages

A novelty item, do not rely on him to perform every time.

My husband already has a few novelty bottle openers, mostly in the shape of sexy ladies, so I decided in the name of fairness to purchase the Paladone happy man bottle opener.

When the happy man bottle opener arrived he was attached to a piece of card with plastic over the top, his little butt cheeks poking out the back and his appendage in a dome on the front. He had a very happy smile on his face. Paladone pride themselves on there environmentally friendly packaging, so I have to note that all the packaging was kept to a minimum and can be recycled.

The bottle opener itself is made out of solid red plastic, he is very shiny and very tactile, just begging to be picked up and used. The happy man leans back at an angle to accommodate his large member and is very stable on his feet. The opening part of the bottle opener is on the under side his phallic extension and is made out of metal.

To use the bottle opener you just grip him tightly, he seems made to fit comfortably in a ladies hand. You then hook the bottle opener over the bottle cap and lever him backwards in one smooth movement, and hey presto your bottle is open.

In theory this is a good bottle opener but in practice it can be quite awkward, and occasionally he slips off the cap and does not open the bottle at all. I also feel that his male member could snap off if used too vigorously!!!

In conclusion I think that the Paladone happy man is a novelty item and should be used as such. He does bring a smile to everybody's face when he is popped out of the draw at parties, but do not rely on him to perform every time.

            His vital statistics are 8cm (h) x 5.5cm (w) x 5cm (d) and he weighs in at 1.4kg packaged.

I purchased him from amazon.co.uk and he cost me £5.99 with free shipping, he currently retails for £4.69 also with free shipping.

              Disadvantages

I think most people would appreciate the funny side to this bottle opener!

I bought this to go with my Paladone novelty corkscrew I have already in my kitchen, they make me laugh so much! I think this one looks the rudest by far, I think you can never have enough bottle openers round your home and the more novelty/risque the better!

Paladone have a huge array of novelty and quirky goods and gifts and this is known as part of the Happy Man range, there is a corkscrew, bottle stop and this bottle opener available to purchase. The man itself is made of a tough, red moulded plastic material. He is shaped as if he is doing a star jump or snow angel shape with legs and arms akimbo. The bottle opener lever sticks out from his pelvis area, positioned and made to look like some very rude indeed!

To open your bottle of beer you simply hold the man by his arms and legs and position the bottle cap in his private area and pull at an angle, removing the bottle cap with ease! Paladone describes the product as " the practical man who gets excited when opening bottles"! It is a great fun little item to use especially when you hand it to guests and see the surprise!

The opener is a bit of an awkward shape for keeping in draws but that is simply its design, measuring 8cm (h) x 5.5cm (w) x 5cm (d) and weighting 1.4 Kg. It seems to be a very strong little gadget and we use it for most of our beer openings with no sign of wear or tear. It is water and dishwasher safe and very easy to wipe clean.

I picked up my new Paladone man in HMV, but they are becoming ever more widely available online from Amazon and Play.com etc. It is priced around the £6 mark which makes it a perfect present for Christmas gifts and parties. I love it, it is a bit of fun and very unique and quirky!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Decent bottle opener/novelty item from Paladone

In keeping with the Paladone Happy Man style of products and following suit with the corkscrew and bottle stopper products they have, this bottle opener is essentially a novelty gift that is also a bit cheeky. Paladone have a wide range of novelty gifts, and The Happy Man set are a bit on the risque side.

It's a simple little device, consisting of a rather solid body for the bottle opener of a little red hard plastic man, arms and legs splayed as if he's in the middle of standing there cheering about something. Coming from the very bottom part of his tummy area is the bottle opener, a chunky cylinder with a rounded ende and a curved chunk taken out of the underneath of it to accommodate its practical use, that of opening bottles!

It's a solid enough construction, and this one thing that usually worries me about such novelty products: that they're likely to fall apart soon after acquiring them. This, however, is very solid. I suppose the proof of the pudding is in the eating, as it were, so does it open bottles? Well, I can't say it's the best bottle opener I've ever used, and it certainly isn't the easiest to hold. Somewhat cumbersome, you'd expect to be able to gain a purchase over the top of the bottle as you open it, whereas with this the pressure used to open it comes very much from behind it as you hold the figure of the man to open it.

But it does work, and ultimately that's what matters. It's a bit cumbersome and the majority of its appeal is its visual appearance, which warrants a second glance as you wonder whether the functional element of the device signifies something a bit ruder due to its low placement on the man's front! But if it works then it's worth having. You'll find that this is more the sort of thing that you buy as a novelty gift for someone else as opposed to something for yourself, and with Christmas on the way, only a couple of months away, if you're on the look out for a cheap and cheerful cheeky gift for someone, this could be it. It prices up at around the £6 mark, which isn't too bad for something practical and a novelty item as well.

                -

As explained in one of my other reviews when i left my job after ten years i was given a gift containing a bottle of red wine, Paladone happy man bottle stopper and the Paladone happy man bottle opener. I found the Paladone happy man to be a tatsetless gift at the time but since grown to love them and when not in use i have the two men on display in my kitchen and often end up the topic of conversation with visitors.

Before receiving Mr happy bottle opener i had see him for sale in the gadget shop and Amazon uk. Paladone happy man costs roughly £4.99.
Paladone happy man comes in clear plastic packaging, its hard to pull open so requires scissors to cut the packaging off. You can see the happy man through the packaging at least if you wanted to buy him you can see what size he is etc. No instructions come with the happy man i guess its because he is straightforward to use and works like every other bottle opener.

Paladone happy man bottle opener is made from solid plastic and weights more than the Mr happy man bottle stopper. He is red in colour and has a smile on his face. I like the way both of his hands are up in the air. He measures roughly 5cm tall.

Paladone bottle opener has a sticking out part as his private manly bits and this has the bottle opener on it. The bottle opener on the end of his private bits is reinforced with metal underneath so he is nice and hard woops mean strong and unlikely to snap when opening a bottle. I have opened many a beer bottles over the last couple of year and so far so good. Paladone happy man can stand up right on his feet for displaying. I love this bottle opener as does my husband he always brings a wee smile to my face when i see him.

Paladone happy man bottle opener can be put in the dishwasher or hand washed should he get sticky with beer or for me the coca cola bottles that always seem to explode when pulling of the cap.

I think he makes an awesome gift for man or woman with a sense of humour .
I highly recommend Paladone happy man bottle opener , he does his job well!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

A fun 'adult' novelty item with a use.

This is the third and final novelty man of the set of 3 Paladone Happy Man series that our friends gave to us as a 'Welcome to Your New Home' present a few months back. As with the other 2, it is basically a novelty gadget with a purpose, in this case the purpose being to act as a bottle opener. As with the wine stopper version, this probably ranks alongside that as the most phallic symbol orientated of the series.

As with the other 3, it is effectively a figurine in the form of a man with his arms and legs outstretched, where he has been designed and balanced so that he can stand upright on his own 2 feet. Retailing for around the £5 mark, size wise, it measures 8 cm high, by 5.5 cm wide by 5 cm deep and can comfortably fit within a drawer. Looking from above, the man also has a rather large 'protrusion' coming out from his groin area, very exaggerated in relation to his body size and, when coupled with the rather cheeky grin on his face and the wide spread eagled stance, conjures up all sorts of bubble comments in your head as to what he could be saying. As one recent female party guest commented to her husband 'I bet you wish you could do that?' which did rather cause a fit a giggles around the table, especially at the thought of him trying to remove bottle caps in the process!!!

So where is the bottle opener element? Well by a rather clever piece of design, the actual metal clip bit for the bottle opener is located underneath the man's protrusion, which is not immediately apparent when viewed from the front or above. The idea is that you grip the figurine firmly, clip his protrusion over the bottle cap, engage the metal clip onto the edge of the bottle cap and then lever upwards to lift the cap off.

The figurine itself is made from a solid red plastic in the one mould piece, so there should be no real weak spots to worry about breaking. The protrusion to body connection is again in one piece and seems to be significantly robust enough to take the loading and forces that it will endure when in use to remove a bottle cap. The plastic itself is fairly shiny and easily wipe cleanable and overall it does feel solid in your hand and well made.

Durability wise we have had no problems thus far, despite extensive use. The man is still in one piece and appears to be hard wearing, and the metal bottle cap remover bit has not shown any signs of wear or tear yet and is still functioning as intended. Above all, the man is still smiling and obviously still enjoying his purpose in life.

In summary, if you are going to buy one of these figurines, you may as well buy all 3 of the series, because when you stand them side by side on a table top, they do become a great conversation piece that will break the ice at any party. Perhaps not ideally suited to a gathering where children are present, these are an adult orientated novelty gift that does serve a useful purpose and is well made and durable. Hence, highly recommended.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

He will always raise a smile

As you may have seen from previous reviews I have been brought the Paladone Happy Man Bottle Stop and Cork Screw as a novelty present, with these I also received the Paladone Happy Man Bottle Opener to complete my Paladone Happy Man set. As with the Happy Man Bottle Stop and Cork Screw he is made of the same bright red plastic, he is standing in the same position with his leg slightly apart and his arms stretched in the air. He has the same happy expression on his face with the eyes and mouth details being cut out of the plastic which makes up his face. The overall detail on this item is a little basic as it is with the Bottle Stop and Cork Screw, his hands and feet do not have details of fingers and toes but consists of the basic outline of hands and feet .The Happy Man Bottle Opener is made of a shiny plastic but the shape of his with his arms in the air makes him very easy to grip when using him to open a bottle, I did wonder whether he might slip out of your hand slightly but so far I have had not problems with this.

The actually bottle opener part of the Happy Man is made from the same shiny red plastic, it is moulded into a hook at the end of it and is strengthened by a piece of metal set into the plastic helping to prevent it from snapping when opening a bottle, it is also designed and positioned to look like a large 'willy' fitting in with the theme of the Paladone Happy Men. The Happy Man bottle opener I think has had the most use out of my 3 Paladone men, even my fiancé uses him to open his beer bottles, although he wasn't sure to start with. Although he has had a lot of use and been used to open quite a few beer bottles since we have had him, his bottle opener shaped willy has stood up to the test, the metal going through it really does make it strong and hard wearing, my Happy Man Bottle Opener looks as good as new and is in the same condition as when I received him. The hooked end is a good size meaning that you can open most sized bottles both large and small.

The Happy Man Paladone Bottle Opener works basically in the same way that all bottle openers do, you simply place the hooked end over the bottle top and prise it off, I did wonder whether smaller lids might slip out of the bottle opener with the hooked area being quite large, but so far we have had no problems and have used him to open a variety of sized bottles. The entire bottle opener I find is the perfect size, as I have said the shape of the Paladone Man makes him very easy to hold and grip when using, I have found this with all 3 of my Paladone men, he measures 8 cm (h) x 5.5 cm (w) x 5cm (d) meaning he is an ideal size to use, not too big and bulky but not to small and fiddly and he is also small enough to be stored inside a draw.

As I have mention my Paladone Happy Man Bottle Opener was part of a present so I am not sure how much he cost, however I have looked him up online and found that he is sold (as were the other Paladon Men) at Amazon, here he is sold at different prices depending on the seller, these vary between just under £1 to £5. Personally I feel this is a fair price for the Happy Man Bottle Opener, he is fun and raises a smile when you have visitors round who require the use of a bottle opener, but not only that he is actually of excellent quality. So far her has proved to be very hard wearing and is in excellent condition despite being used on numerous occasions. He is very easy to store and maintain, although he cannot be washed in the dishwasher, simply wiping him over with warm soapy water keeps him clean and looking good, there are no difficult corners to get into so cleaning the Happy man is very easy.

Overall I would recommend the Paladone Happy Man Bottle Opener, obviously due to the nature of this item it is not suitable to use around children, and also he might not be to everybody's taste. Personally I have found that he goes down very well as do the other Paladone Men when you get them out in front of people, he usually raises a smile. Not only is he a novelty item, he is also very practical and very hard wearing, he is well worth the money.. I would recommend the Paladone Happy Man Bottle Opener as both a novelty gift for someone and also as a practical item to have around the kitchen. In conclusion I have been very impressed with my Happy Man and he will continue to get a lot of use

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

                    A very useful gadget.

Searching for bottle openers is a very boring task. They all look the same and are too metal for my tastes. Then I saw this happy red man who was the answer to my prayers. I found mine for £7 and am very pleased with my purchase.

I don't believe there is much I can tell you about the design other than what you see in the picture. But none the less it is in the shape of a very happy man who is red. This makes him easy to find and so if you lose him he can be easily found again. He is comfortable to hold and there are no sharp buts that stick in your hand whilst trying to open a particularly stubborn bottle. The bottle opener itself is very sturdy and much to the very happy mans delight, will not snap off any time soon!

I would recommend this too some of my friends because the design of it is not too everyone's tastes.

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

A great little novelty item that matches my other Paladone Happy Men gadgets!

Aha! I have him! After finding the Happy Man Bottle Stopper and Happy Man Corkscrew brand new at a car boot sale earlier in the year, I had been wanting to add the Happy Man Bottle Opener to that pair to create the ultimate wine and beer bottle set, and after searching the internet for this little chap, I found him on http://www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk for £4.99. I thought this was a reasonable price to complete my trio of Happy Men and so ordered him. He arrived yesterday, and as with the Paladone Happy Man Bottle Stopper and matching Happy Man Corkscrew, I'm very pleased with him.

The Happy Man Bottle Opener is very much like the matching corkscrew and bottle stopper, basically consistng of a shiny red plastic man shape, which reminds me of Morph the plasticine figure, standing spread-eagled. He has a huge grin on his face, probably because he has a strategically placed bottle opener appendage. The bottle opener itself has a semi-circular cut away section which contains a metal strip. This is easy to hook under the rims of bottle tops, and a quick yank like with any other bottle opener will pop the lid off the bottle easily.

This silly novelty item, as well as being a talking point for friends we've had around and a generator of giggles, also works very well at it's job. It's simple to use, with the red man's body being easy to grip as you pop off the bottle lid with his bits! He feels sturdy to hold and as a bottle opener in general feels well made and unlikely to have bits snap off.

The only thing I can see people being put off by is his design, as clearly this is not going to be liked by everyone, due to it's cheeky, bold subject matter. Personally, however, I really like this and find that he's a great addition to my other two Paladone Happy Men. For the price I paid, I'm happy with my purchase and can recommend this happy little chap to others.
