Philips HF3475/01 Wake-Up Light with Radio Alarm
Advantages: Wakes you up naturally, helps combat SAD and tiredness, back up alarm, great design.
The Philips Wake-up Light is a light alarm clock to help wake you up in a more natural way in the morning. You can set the time you want to be awake for and then gradually over 30 minutes up until the set time, the light starts to come on, growing in intensity until it wakes you up. You can set the intensity you wish the light to go to, with the highest setting being 20. I have my light set on 20 and I find myself starting to wake up usually when it gets to around 17 on the intensity.
As a fail safe, incase you are worried that the light might not wake you up alone, there are also varying alarm sounds like bell chimes, jungle noises, alarm sounds and birds tweeting. I have mine set on the birds tweeting and on the occasional day where the light does fail to wake me up alone, the birds work. If you are a person who doesn't wake up with natural light in the summer, as I know that it doesn't work for everyone, I would suggest that perhaps this product wouldn't be the right one for you.
There is also a digital FM Radio in the Wake-Up Light alarm clock which you can just turn on and off when you fancy or you can set that as your wake up alarm sound as well if that is the kind of thing you like.
You can use the Wake-Up Light as a normal bedroom lamp. I have actually completely replaced the lamp on my bedside table with this and it is perfect for reading with. You can change the intensity of the light to suit your needs. One thing that is worth mentioning is that if you change the intensity of the light whilst you are using it as a lamp, it changes the intensity that it will reach to wake you up in the morning so always set it back to the right intensity before you go to sleep. You can also set the light to turn off after a certain amount of minutes in incriments of 15 after you have turned it on. It gradually dims over this time until eventually turning off. I find this particularly nice to fall asleep to. I usually set it for 30 mins and I am usually asleep before the light goes out.
The Philips Wake-Up Light is extremely easy to use to the point that I barely had to flip through the instructions the first time I used it. The top dial adjusts the light intensity, the middle dial adjusts the settings like the alarm noise and the bottom dial is for the radio. These are all very easy to use. You turn the alarm on and off and can set it to snooze etc with the switch at the bottom. To change the time you want the alarm to come on, you just flip the switch so the alarm is on and then use the middle "settings" dial to adjust the time.
The Wake-Up Light itself is very attractive. It is basically just a light globe, with the dials on one side. The clock display with the time is clearly displayed at the bottom so you can use it as an ordinary clock as well. You can change the intensity of the clock display so it doesn't disturb your sleep by being too bright. It is really well made and solid feeling. Looks and feels like a really good quality product. The Wake-Up Light is not so huge that it takes up all the space on your bedside table. It is actually a really nice size. It takes up about as much space as an A5 piece of paper would. It just looks very attractive and modern in general.
The Philips Wake-Up Light really has worked very well for me. It is so lovely waking up in a more natural way in the winter. It has made me feel much more awake in the morning and it isnt such a shock to the system as waking up to a horrible loud alarm is. In the summer I always wake up naturally as the sun rises so this made perfect sense to me. It's obvious I would not have had a problem waking up using this product. I am also feeling much better in the evenings as well now. I am not nearly as tired as I was before and my energy levels and general sense of well being are much better. I will continue to use this product throughout the lighter months as the sound alarm is a useful backup if I'm having one of those days where I forget to wake up. Plus it makes an excellent bedside lamp.
The Wake-Up Light costs anywhere from about £100-£130, depending on if it is on offer at the time and where you buy it from. I think it is well work the money. At full price, £130.00 is not alot of money to pay for something that is such excellent quality and that does so much for you, especially for people suffering from SAD and struggling to get up in the winter months.
Overall I give the Philips Wake-Up Light a 10/10. I cannot really think of anything negative to say about it, I think it is a fantastic product. It has really changed the way I wake up and feel throughout the winter months. I think it is worth paying out the money for something which works as excellently as this does for.
