Poundland Office Stapler Set
Advantages: Reliable stapler, works just fine
Disadvantages: Nothing to keep the staples in
When you buy things for £1, then you have to expect something that's going to be a bit below par when it comes to quality. Lower expectations often mean being pleased with your purchase, especially where pound shops are concerned. This set though is rather reliable and well worth the money spent, and if anything perhaps of better quality than a lot of staplers you'd end up paying more for.
Crudely stuffed into a moulded bit of plastic covering, the three elements to this set are the stapler, the staple remover, and some staples. The only gripe is perhaps that the staples aren't in a little packet or box, and as such are loose, a bit annoying as they don't all fit into the stapler in one go. The stapler itself is slightly smaller than the standard ones I've been used to, and the one I've got is blue. The two top parts separate very easily in order to put the staples in, and when you close it, I find it's always a good idea to just test it by squeezing out a stapler.
This one has a well formed base plate, which is equally solid and sturdy for the mechanism, and with an accurate base plate stamped into it to bend the staple once the force is applied. Using the stapler is pretty standard, and the curved, round ends of it make it nice and easy to grip and use. I guess I don't use it all that much, but I haven't had any issues with it or the staplers used with it, and it cost hardly anything so I can't complain.
There also quite a handy staple remover that comes with it, although is probably most handy when it comes to removing any rogue staples from walls or boards etc. The stapler it comes with isn't the best for doing this with, and although you can turn the stapler into a sort of staple gun by opening it out and sort of banging it against the wall or board, it's not ideal and doesn't always work, especially if there's not much of a backing to the surface you're stapling. Trying to remove staples from paper with this staple remover is very touch and go, and I find it easier to use my fingers and gently manipulate the used staple and separate it from the paper. The remover doesn't really work with the stapler in this way.
The staples are decent enough, but as I said earlier, it's a bit annoying that they're not in a container of their own. Having loose staples lying around isn't ideal, especially if you have kids like we do, and so this is quite notable when you open it up, discard the rudimentary packaging and then wonder where you're going to keep the staples. In all honesty, we kind of have a staple packet anyway so this isn't a complete issue, but if you don't have a container already this could be an issue, albeit a slight one.
Overall this is a decent product and easily worth the money you pay for it. Other staplers cost more, you don't get a remover or staples and aren't as reliable. This one works just fine, is easy to use and has extras. Recommended.
Summary: Solid reliable and affordable stapler set
