Advantages: Compete with yourself and friends, work out the wrists and arms

Disadvantages: It can really ache your whole arm

The room is dark and quiet. You suddenly hear a crack of what sounds like a whip, an engine has been started, a quiet rotary noise is gradually getting faster and faster, louder, emitting some form of glow the faster it's getting. You can then see a hand silohette around the glow, it's being held by someone. As the hand appears to be progressing the revolutions, you can see a figure as the gowing lights are getting brighter and brighter.

You then notice that it's your mate Dave and he has a face like he's been eating lemons. This, is the Powerball effect.

Thw Powerall started off as simple device which is a round case which houses a large ballbearing. You use a piece of string (optional) to start the ball bearing revolving, of which you need to use your wrist to build the speed up of the inner ball.

This product is actually designed to improve wrist strength and train your wrists to be quicker, essential for any squash player. It also helps to 'work out' the wrists, so if you suffer from bony ones, this will certainly help. It actually ends up working out the entire arm (depending on what method you use)

There is also an onboard computer, this lets you know what speed the RPM is currently at. Once it reaches 5k, the light starts to glow, which gets brighter the faster you get. It also holds your highscore, something to challeneg your mates with

It's a fun device, an ideal xmas present for anyone, you'll find yourself playing with it loads and ending up with very sore wrists.

I bought mine from play.com for about £12, though John Lewis now sell them and a few other places, there are loads now anyway.

Good fun! Have a look on youtube for the pro's making it look easy!

Summary: A very good laugh, great xmas present for anyone really.
