      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      This clock is fun, bright and quirky - but definitely won't be everyone's cup of tea

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      This gift was a grower...
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      This was given to us as a housewarming present when we moved into our new house, and while it probably wouldn't be something I would have chosen for ourselves now that we have it installed on one of our shelves, I actually really like it and it's grown on me a lot!

      As you can see from the picture, this is a clock that has been designed to resemble three hardback books. It is a large item, measuring about 20cm high, 20cm wide, and 15cm from front to back. So needless to say, this isn't a wall that can be mounted on a wall - this has to be placed on a shelf or perhaps a table.

      The three books are slightly different heights, giving it quite an interesting appearance and are coloured blue, yellow and red. We have a 12 and 6 on the yellow book, and NINE and THREE spelt out on the blue and red books respectively. There are also two hands and a second hand on the clock as you would expect. I think the fact there are only four numbers on this clock is a good thing as otherwise it would look a bit much - it is already quite a statement piece in itself so I think the fact that the numbering and hands of the clock are understated helps prevent this item from looking a bit too over-the-top and novel.

      ~~~~~~
      Shelve it
      ~~~~~~
      Obviously you could place this on any bookshelf in amongst a bunch of books. It would certainly be a talking point! We, however, have it on a shelf where we display other items such as pictures and small vases, and so on. Like I say, I wasn't really sure about this at first but I have grown to really like it. We have a lot of white in our living room, so this gives a nice splash of colour and has a very modern and slightly quirky appearance, and lots of people comment on it. It definitely wouldn't look right in every home but I think it does work for us and I really like how it looks.

      One thing I must mention, though, is that this is a lightweight item - the construction is of light card so this is not a sturdy item and it definitely won't withstand being bashed about at all.

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Something different...
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      This retails for around £20, which I think is a decent price for something that does make a statement and is quirky and unique - however I am going to take a star off as I think the quality is a bit poor for this item and I would be worried that it may not last.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Too pricey for what you get!

        I like things that look different and that are different to what everyone else has! When people buy me presents they like to try and get me things that are a bit different and things that are different. I was bought this interesting clock for Christmas which I thought was quite cute as I am a big lover of books. I didn't necessarily need a new clock but as Christmas presents go, I did not think it was too bad and have put it in my home office to brighten it up.

        ==Price and availability==

        This was a gift so I was unaware of the price when I received it but on looking on the internet it can be bought for around £18. (I now know that they spent considerably more on my than I did on them!)

        ==Description==

        You can get the book clock in sophisticated classic black or in colour. The coloured books look a bit childlike so I would have preferred the black ones, nether the less I still do like the piece. The clock looks a bit cheap once you handle it and the novelty of having three fake books wears off when you realise that it is quite poor quality. The clock is not very heavy as they are made from paper so you can have it in a number of places but you are limited slightly by its monstrous size (20 cm x 15 cm x 20 cm. It really is quite a large cube! I have managed to nestle mine on a shelf with some other books. To help with reading the time there are some numbers written on 3,6,9,12. Other than feeling quite cheap in construction, the clock hands are really flimsy and noisy stutter round. They feel really pliable and a slight knock would probably knock the hands off!

        ==Overall==

        This clock looks good from a distance and at first glance you think it is quite cool and interesting but after a while the novelty wears off. I am slightly disappointed with the clock, for one it is really noisy and two it just does not seem built to last.
        This clock costs far too much and much more than it is worth. It would make a great gift if you can pick it up for less than 10 pounds but £20 is way too much!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Expensive for what it is, looks good from a distance but looks better left in the box.....

          Before Christmas I were on the lookout for a quirky clock for my mantelpiece and as you can probably tell by the picture this clock fitted the bill perfectly - or so I thought. The brightly coloured Karsson book clock is available online and I purchased mine online for under £20 delivered. The clock appears to be three books in blue, yellow and red, and the centre book (yellow) is not only larger than the other books it also has the numbers 12 and 6 located appropriately down the spine. The other smaller books have the words 'nine' and 'three' on their spines too.

          The clock is apporximately 20cm x 15cm x 20cm and is disappointingly less sturdy than its appearance suggests. Although it is very colourful and stands out well on its own, it can be hidden among books on a shelf to blend in with the background. If you have a bookshelf it would be ideal, but I have it as a quirky timepiece on my mantel and it is equally as effective. The hands and movement of the clock are of a very basic quality. The clock requires a single AA battery which is not supplied, but the movement and hands are not built to last and are of a poor standard for what isn't a cheap clock in my opinion. At £20 delivered I would have expected something with a bit more quality, but even the body of the clock isn't as sturdy as one would desire.

          If you are looking for something out of the ordinary and don't want a digital or plain design then this clock could be for you. If you are looking for a quirky gift then this could also fit the bill, but quality product this is not. For all it is bright and attractive, £20 is a little much for such a poor novelty item and had i seen this in a shop for half the price I wouldn't have been tempted.
