When we moved into our new flat I decided we needed a wall clock. I wanted something a little unusual and it took me a while to find a clock I liked but eventually I spotted this Karlsson Sunburst Crystal clock. What attracted me to it is that it isn't a solid shape, which sets it aside from the pictures and mirrors hanging on the walls.
To me this clock is as much a piece of wall art as it is a clock, I do use it to tell the time but I like to also look at as a piece of modern art, which I can do from sitting on my sofa, which I am doing right now. It keeps the time perfectly and runs off an AA battery - not included - which slots into a plastic bracket behind the face of the clock. I have had the clock three years and it's only on its second battery.
The clock is made out of shiny crome throngs which stick out from a round centre piece, the face of the clock where the hands of the clock are attached. There are quite a number of these "thongs" sticking out from the centre face piece at different lengths, some with come balls on the end, some without. The crome balls are different sizes, getting smaller as they go into the centre of the clock.
The hands and time can be adjusted from the back by where the battery is placed by turning a flat cog-like knob. It's a little tricky to do as the clock isn't the easiest of things to hold because of its shape, but then I only adjust it twice a year for British Summer and back and when the battery runs out. I do find getting it back on the wall can be a little tricky too, it's a bit difficult to get a grip, because of the throngs sticking out. I have to grip the face by my fingertips and then try and aline it with the nail on the wall.
Some friends have said they find it a little hard to read the time as the hands blend in with the throngs. I guess this is the case, but I am used to the clock and I always read the part of the hands that are over the face. I do find that I can also see the time of this clock at night with the lights out. The hands seems to attract the light from the street lights outside and I can tell the time when I am standing to the one side of the clock, which does come in handy when I am wondering around at night, trying not to wake everyone else up because I can't sleep!
There is just an hour and a minute hand, no seconds hand, this is fine for me although I know some people prefer to have a second hand too. There is slightly different coloured crome bobble, which matches the balls at the end of the throngs to mark each quarter hour on the clock's face. "Karlsson" is written in smallish black writing under the hands.
This clock comes in two different sizes. Mine is the larger version which is about 50cm in diameter, so quite big but it does make a real statement on the wall. I spotted it on Amazon and it cost about £60, which I guess is quite a lot but I think it is well worth the money. I have had loads of comments about it when friends come around and I am really pleased with my choice.
When my fiancé and myself moved into our house nearly 2 years ago one of the things on our huge list of things to buy was a clock for the lounge, now I didn't want anything too over the top or anything old fashioned, I was looking for something that was going to look stylish, fit in with the room and something which was quite modern. I had a look around the local shops but couldn't find anything which fitted what we were looking for so we decided to try the internet. Whilst browsing various websites we can across the Karlsson Wall Clock Sunburst crystal on Amazon, it was perfect for what we wanted, quite large, not too over the top and is certainly modern looking, it also had the added benefit of having sparkly crystals which drew me to this clock.
The Karlsson wall clock is made up of a small chrome circle which forms the centre of the clock, this has the word Karlsson written cross the bottom of it in black and as with all clocks this is the area where the clock hands are mounted, there are also 4 small crystals mounted on the centre piece of the clock where the number 12, 3, 6 and 9 would be. The hands of the clock are also chrome, these are just regular clock hands, they are quite long as the whole clock is large. Coming from this chrome centre piece of the clock are staggered chrome arms of different lengths, these have small sparkly crystals on the ends of them. Twelve of the longer arms are positioned where the numbers would be, however instead of numbers on the ends of these 12 prongs are larger crystals making them stand out which in turn makes telling the time easier. The clock has a small black battery pack on the back of it, this has a battery slot which take 1 AA battery (not included) and also a small hook allowing the clock to be easily mounted onto the wall.
We have had our clock nearly 2 years now and have only had to change the battery about twice, it really does keep time very well, we have had no problems with the clock being too fast or slow other than when the battery has run out. What I particularly like about the Karlsson Wall Clock are the crystals on the ends of the chrome arms it really makes the clock a bit different and stand out, it looks especially pretty on a sunny day when the crystals catch and shine in the sunlight coming through the windows.
This clock is quite large and measures 50cm in diameter, for us this is the perfect size clock it is not too big but is large enough to make telling the time easy. We have ours mounted on a totally plain wall however this clock could make a room look slightly cluttered if you already have a lot of wall mounted items especially due to its size. Personally I feel this clock is ideal for a room where there are not already a lot of items on the wall as this could detract from the clock itself.
We purchased our clock from Amazon as I have previously mentioned, it was not the cheapest clock we could have bought and cost us £59.95, now this is quite expensive and we could have bought a clock much cheaper, however personally I feel it was worth the money, it looks very stylish and modern as well as being hardwearing, a clock only hangs on the wall so obviously isn't going to get a lot of wear as such but it has kept the time very well, some cheaper clocks do tend to loose time the older they get but the Karlsson Clock has kept time perfectly.
Despite the fact that there are no numbers on the clock we still find it easy to see what the time is, on occasions we have had people say they think it would be hard to see the time as the hands can blend in with the prongs surrounding the clock and I can see how this could be a problem for some people, however for me personally I do not have this problem and find it very easy to see what the time is even when glancing quickly at the clock.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Karlsson Wall Clock Sunburst Crystal, whilst it was quite expensive for a clock it looks very stylish and made a very good addition to our lounge, the crystals sparkle in the sun and really brighten up the room. For some people it may be a little hard to see what the time is due to the clocks hands blending in with the prongs but personally I do not have a problem with this. This clock is certainly worth the money.
A dramatic burst of crystals on silver needles forms the centrepiece to your room.
