During my summer jaunts around d various campsites and large music festivals I always pack too many bits and bobs for emergencies and am always buying new gadgets for each trip and one of the ones that has come in most handy over recent trips has been this Sealey Wind Up Lantern.
Sealey of course is a brand leading manufacturer when it comes to producing sources of light and they are definitely a brand name to be trusted and one associated with quality. This particular device retails art around the £9.99 mark which is a very reasonable figure given the quality you are getting and you can go out there and pay much more, or similar prices, for a far inferior product.
The novelty here too is that the box states this provides more light than the standard lantern by containing a staggering 20 LED lights which work together with the reflective surface to ensure you are given the best quality and stable light possible. Of course, you can switch through the various settings which utilise a half, a third or all of the LED's and obviously this determines the amount of light you will get through.
What this means is you have a flexible light source. One the lowest setting it is enough to light up your immediate area and a small tent if you want to locate something etc, the second setting will light up well away from you for if you are changing etc and the third light is that strong that even inside a black tent in the pitch black of night it has proven to be bright. I often don't use this setting as I fear it is so bright that it will make my tent glow!
What about the winding up process I hear you ask? Well it takes around 60 seconds to charge a lamp that will last you around 45 minutes before fading. Once it starts fading it does tend to go with a flurry so you need to make sure at that first sign of fade you give it that extra push. The winding is easy and hassle free.
The whole device is also well made, solidly put together, well made and feeling durable.
All in all then this device provides an excellent light source, for an affordable price with minimum fuss. Buy it!
I have several Sealey torches scattered around the place I tend to buy them whenever I see them cheap enough. I managed to pick this wind up lantern up for £10 from a local car store before a recent camping trip.
The idea is the same as any usual wind up torch except this has extra LED's for extra illumination. I beleive this lantern contains 20 LED's with a reflective background to add to the light given out. The torch has three different light settings with either one, two or three blocks of LED's being lit at any one time.
Operation of this torch is very easy with the one button on the side that cycles through the different light settings and also acts as the on/off button. The handle to wind the torch up with folds neatly away in the side of the torch, one minute of winding can give up to 60 minutes of illumination.
The housing of the torch dosen't look all that tough however is made of very durable stuff and has put up with being dropped and knocked about in travel bags. Even the hook to hang the torch from hasn't snapped off yet and proves to be handy whilst in the tent.
Overall a great durable product which saves on the batteries. Would definately recommend to anybody.
