Advantages: ? novelty?

Disadvantages: Everything. Price. won't use past it's novelty

This slightly bizarre novelty gadget was bought for my husband as a joke from his colleagues at work. I'm not quite sure the reason because he doesn't particularly eat crisps, but I'm not pretending to understand him or his colleagues!

Invented by the Japanese firm Takara Tomy, it's Japanese name is the Potechi-no-te but obviously us Brits had to rename this to the catchy (or not so!) Potato Crisp Hand Grabber - oriiiggginal! It's certainly different and is a simple grabber with a push button release to allow you to pick crisps from a packet or bowl using the hand (which looks a little like the white gloved Mickey Mouse hand!).

He got this gadget for his birthday in April and has used it twice. Once to appease his colleagues, and once to show me how bizarre it was. That's it. I think our children however have used it a fair bit and find it absolutely hilarious.

The general idea is to avoid getting fingers greasy while eating crisps / kettle chips, but I can honestly say I have never thought while eating crisps 'my hands are so greasy, someone should invent a Potato Crisp Hand Grabber!' I can see why it has been invented in Japan, and also why I haven't really seen this in the UK.

I had seen this product being used by Karl Pilkington on Sky 1's Idiot Abroad, and it most likely sold a few from this, but any sane person (in my opinion!), wouldn't use this item after the initial novelty has worn off.

It's fairly light at around 200g, and it comes in pink, orange or blue. What's even more bizarre is my husband's colleagues bought him the pink one!

For UK markets, I can't see this doing very well.

If you desperately want this item, you can pay £8.99 on Amazon, but please don't!

~I've done a product suggestion for this item and Dooyoo have listed if under 'Shadez Gadgets'. I'm not sure why but it's exactly the same item.~
