Advantages: 9 colours, long lasting with "normal" use, bright ink colours

The Stabilo Boss original highlighter pen has been around since 1972 and now comes in nine different flourescent shades. Each pen is 4 inches long with its lid on and 1 inch wide at the widest point.

The cap twists or pulls off to reveal a slanted chisel end nib. You can use this nib to create wide lines (5mm) or fine lines (1-2mm if you use the end of the nib). They are refillable (although I have never refilled one) and the ink writes on paper or fax paper.

You can buy a stabilo boss highlighter pen for around £1-£1.50 depending uponthe retailer. They are availalbe in an assortment of wallets and multi packs- ie there is a 10 pack of 5 colours, a 4 pack wallet of 3 colours etc on the market.

Highlighters are fantastic for highlighting lines of text. I found when I was at
university, I was getting through a highlighter a week when I was doing essays or revising. As I did a research based degree where a lot of the books were overnight loans I found I was photocopying short excerts from a lot of different books and then highlighting the important parts I could refer to in essays etc. This enabled me to hire a book in the afternoon, and return it the next morning without needing to stay up all night copying paragraphs down.

As i was using so many highlighters,. I tried the cheaper versions but always found they dried out quicker than the stabilo boss ones and the ink colours were not as good.

Overall, I would definitely recommend these over all other highlighter pens I have tried. The colours are brighter and they do not dry out as quickly with heavy use as cheaper alternatives will. If they are stored flat and stood upside down then the ink is starting to dry out a stabilo pen will last for a long time (unless like me you are mid essay or using them lots for revision).

The Stabilo boss range is not just limited to the original highlighters, they also have smudge proof highlighters, thinner pens, double ended highlighters, mini boss highlighters etc.,
