Advantages: Very small, very cool, comes in a tin, warranty, looks cool
Disadvantages: hard to use, not as useful as say a swiss army knife, opening and closing needs practice
What is it?
The swiss tech utili key is a small multi tool gadget, with 6 handy tools packed into a package about the size of a standard yale key! The features on this tool include:
A straight knife
A serrated knife
A Philips screwdriver
A Flathead screwdriver
A precision Flathead screwdriver (the type that works on glasses screws)
and finally a bottle opener.
This tool can be in the closed postion as seen in the picture, allowing it to be attached to a key chain, through the loop in the top of the key. The key then opens to a "half way" position, allowing use for the screwdrivers and the bottle opener. The tool also opens all the way, allowing for use of the knifes.
So, what is there to like about this?
This tool is very fun, makes a great gift as comes in a presentation tin, free of charge and is incredibly small. If you have a multi tool such as a gerber, and find it cumbersome, or if like me you just can't afford an expensive multi tool, this is a good alternative. Whats more, the knives on this key can't be use to say stab someone, as the ends are curved of, (so they can only be used for cutting). There is also a lifetime warranty, which means that if the key breaks, under normal use, then swiss tech will replace it free of charge! Reading some blogs, its turns out that sometimes they also let you choose another product in the swiss tech range as compensation!
Whats there not to like?
I have had one or two problems with this key, and they are:
Firstly, opening and closing the key with the knives take some practice. The first dozen or so times, I kept cutting myself on the blades.
This tool may be too small, and may limit the effectiveness of some of the tools, such as the screwdrivers, especially with the knife blades preventing you from holding the key in certain areas.
If you don't mind those one or two problems, then this thing is great. Its not a proper hard core tool, but its a fun, nifty and handy little tool.
Summary: A good gift, i like it, but i know a lot of people who dont
