USB Mug Warmer
Disadvantages: you waste hours , you waste money
I was actualy looking for a set of china mugs I bought from Tesco, to review when I saw this USB mug warmer that I bought a few years ago.
I won't forget it because it looked like such a brilliant idea, you simply 'plug and play' your mug warmer into a spare USB input on your laptop / computer and it heats up and you put your coffee / tea on it to stop it going cold.
My one looks exactly like the one in the picture except it is silver / grey with a light silver cord of about 3 feet. The moulding surround is hard plastic and the bit your mug goes on is a thin metal which is grey.
It has a light which glows red on the side.
I paid about £4 for this on ebay a few years ago, they are still available - I don't reccomend them just to be clear.
When you first plug it in it works straight away, ( well mine did ) so that was quite exciting, and it heats up. I put my hot drink on it while I was playing game or writing, hoping to experience the novelty of having the drink still be piping hot 20 minutes later !
I tried lots of methods, like heating the mug with boiling water ( that works as a stand alone method ) heaitn the device on the kettle ! leaving it plugged in for a very long time - hours - it gets very hot, but the coffee still goes cold !
But a bit like when the bath water goes cold and there is no more hot water to top it up, it was just warming the cup ! Of course I tried over and over but it just wasn't ever going to work, it is now in a bag in the cupboard under the sink, along with all the other gadgets and wires I have bought I should put them on Ebay, hmmm.
In theory it is a great idea. The main problem is that although it gets hot, too hot to touch after it has been on for half an hour or so, it does not for some reason heat the drink. It heats the bottom of the mug or cup slightly, but the mug has to go in the microwave as before, it just doesn't work.
Summary: don't bother
