As with any egg separator, it needs the basic function: to be able to separate the yolk from the white.
I bought this egg separator from John Lewis around four months ago. I think that this product is good.
It is often difficult to find an egg separator that separates the egg exactly. There is often some white left around the yolk or the yolk breaks. This one does separate it quite well although there is occasionally some egg white left around the yolk. The yolk can sometimes break, which means that you need to get a new egg. Despite this, almost every time I have used it, it has worked well. It is good for making cakes or omelettes.
It is very easy to clean - hot water and some washing up liquid seems to do the trick. It is also very strong and highly unlikely to break or snap. Mine hasn't, and I use it quite often.
I really like the quirky design and it goes well with the egg cup and spoon that I bought from the same range. All of the items from the range feature a face (eyes and a moustache - quite humorous actually!), and feet. The colours are white and orange so it may not go with other kitchen utensils or cutlery. On the other hand, it may look brilliant if you have a bright kitchen!
I purchased this product for £1.40 from John Lewis. The price isn't bad. Considering that it is sturdy and strong, does the job reasonably well, and has an interesting design, the price is quite good. One disadvantage is, that I am not sure whether it is still available as it does not appear on John Lewis' website. This product is available from eBay and Amazon, though.
To be honest, you could buy a different egg separator and get the same results. However, if you like slightly more quirky or fun kitchen utensils then this is the egg separator for you!
