Zeon Bird Song Wall Clock
Advantages: The sounds are pleasant to listen to
Disadvantages: None really
I bought one of these clocks for my Dad earlier in the year as he loves birds. He has large patio doors in his living room which look out over his garden and he has a bird table and feeds the birds through out the year. When I saw these clocks advertised in a magazine I thought it would be ideal for him as his old clock he had on the wall was going really slow and he kept having to change the time.
The clock cost me about £20 at the time, I sent off for it but can't remember where from, they sell them now on Amazon for £23. When you buy the clock 50p of the price is donated to RSPB charity.
The clock is the normal size of your average wall clock (8 inches), and it has a green frame to it. On the dial it has the hours marked by pictures of birds instead of numbers. The birds you get on it are robin, tawny owl, wren, song thrush, blackbird, chaffinch, great tit, spotted woodpecker, nightingale, cuckoo, barn owl and blue tit.
When the time gets to the hour depending on what hour it is the clock plays the bird song of that particular bird. My Dad thought this was very novel and he soon learned to tell what bird was singing by what the time was. If the kids are there he makes a big deal of it when the hour is coming up telling them all to listen. The kids think it is really clever, especially the tiny ones who think there are actual birds in the back of the clock!
The good thing about the clock is that it has a sensor in it like you get on the lights that switch on when it gets dark, but this does the opposite, it turns off the bird song when it gets dark so you don't have it going all night long.
The birdsong does sound pretty good really considering its just coming from a clock and the speaker would not be very big. If you are not taking notice of the time it really catches your attention when it goes off but is not annoying at all.
The clock takes three batteries, size AA and they seem to last quite a long time.
I would recommend this clock if you are trying to think of something for a present for Christmas if the person likes birds and bird song.
