Advantages: loud noise to get you up
Disadvantages: controls a bit fiddly
I'm terrible at getting up in the morning, I can set two alarms and will sleep right through them both. I was looking for an additional alarm to set along with my other ones and came across the Wacky Wakers cock-a-doodle doo alarm clock in Hawkins Bazaar for just £4.99 although it is also available from Amazon for £9.99.
I was drawn to the style of the alarm clock, it looks like an old fashioned clock with two bells on the top but luckily it is powered by the supplied AA batteries so you don't have to worry about winding it up every day. I've owned the clock for a few months now and not yet had to change the batteries.
The control knobs to change the time and set the alarm are on the back of the clock and are a little bit fiddly due to their small size but the clock is otherwise simple to operate. The second hand ticks away and is reasonably quiet but is still enough to annoy me when it is otherwise silent. You do have to remember to set the alarm every night before you go to sleep because unlike some electric alarm clocks it does not go off automatically every day but you soon get used to that.
The wacky wakers range of alarm clock all have a different animal noise to wake you up, mine has a cockerel which loudly crows cock-a-doodle-doo! in my lughole. The noise is very loud and manages to wake me up most of the time. It is an extremely harsh noise so it doesn't wake you up gently but given I could probably sleep through an earthquake it's just what I need. The noise is really annoying and I definitely want to get up to switch it off. The clock does stop crowing after a minute or two though and there's no snooze function if you fancy another few minutes in the land of nod. Where this alarm clock is particularly effective is in getting my daughter out of bed. When she is being particularly difficult in the morning I place the alarm in the room but out of her reach. The crowing annoys her so much that she has no choice but to get out of her bed to put it off!
The Wacky Wakers range of alarm clocks are ideal for someone who is looking for a back up alarm. They are stylish, affordable, reliable and make a horrible racket which will increase your chances of getting out of bed in the morning.
Summary: a good alarm clock
