The Buzz series of games have always been a staple of Sony's consoles and are a great family title for people of all ages. The game is based around a quiz show, presented by an over the top character, in which up to four players compete for victory across a range of rounds. Its all intended to be good family fun with well pitched questions and a range of options to make the games as accessible as possible as well as great online support via multiplayer and downloadable content. This is a review of the controllers though so for more on the game please see the relevant reviews.
The game is based around the buzzers. You cannot play the game if you don't have buzzers and each player requires one to take part so unlike other novelty controllers with titles its essential you own these. In the actual game pack you get 4 anyway so this is just for those who maybe have picked the game up on its own or have broken a few.
The buzzers consist of five buttons. Four coloured buttons used to answer questions and make character selections etc and the main buzzer to use when required. It all lights up and looks and feels well made.
Of course in this day and age each controller is fully wireless with no option to wire it up. Each unit requires 2 AA batteries but the battery life is long. In the pack here you get 8 official high quality Sony batteries and I have had the game over 3 years and never had to change them. So unlike the Wii motes don't worry about the additional expense of batteries just yet.
The wireless controllers link easily to the console using a USB connector. Its simple to pair them and it always connects via Bluetooth technology first time. There is no lost connections unless someone turns it off and it has a wide range.
All in all the pack is worth getting if you have the mates and time to play the game. Its fun all round and can be made a whole night of. £29.99 is a bit pricey for 4 controllers that work with one game (although they are compatible with the PS2 version if you own it) so only purchase if you will get the use.
Summary: Essential for Buzz
