Guitar Hero Grip (DS)
Advantages: for use with guitar hero game
Disadvantages: hand cramps
The guitar hero grip controller was a bit of kit I got for the nintendo ds game guitar hero on tour. The ds is a small hand held gaming console and the guitar hero on tour game can be played with the guitar hero grip controller. It can be fun to use for short time spans.
The idea is to use the controller attached to the ds and then use the features on it to play the game. The grip goes into the game boy advance slot when you need to use it. This is easy to do you push it in place and it takes a few seconds to set up. The connection is good and I had no problems with it.
When playing the game you use the 4 coloured buttons in the same way you use the buttons on the guitar controller for the full sized version of the game. If you are left handed you can hold the grip in the opposite way and it will still work.
The guitar hero grip is small and can end up hurting your hand if you use it for too long. I think I was alright using it for about half an hour but after that I had to have a break as I got hand cramps. You hold it a bit like when you use a camcorder type thing.
When I got the game I got the controller with it as part of the pack. The hand strap that you get comes as part of the set up and you only need to hook your hand under it do use it. You can adjust the fit of the hand grip but I got cramps even after I had done that. The strap is easy to adjust.
The guitar hero grip is well made and the functions buttons work fine when you use them. I didn't have any problems with them when I used this. The response from them was good. I think the grip controller is durable but can cause hand cramps if you use it for too long and I think that is a bit of a pain.
I think that its best to have breaks when you use the grip controller and that way you can get the best from it with not too much strain on the hands. Perhaps people with smaller hands may not have such problems with hand cramps but I don't know for sure.
I would recommend the guitar grip because it adds a bit more fun to the game and the coloured control buttons can be used like the guitar frets on the normal guitar used in the full sized ps3 and wii versions of the game. The controller does not need any batteries and that is a good thing I liked about it.
I got mine with the game but you can buy a replacement one for about £5. Many computer games shops also sell second hand grip controllers and I have seen these sometimes at good prices.
Summary: works ok and can be fun.
