Guitar Hero: World Tour Wireless Drum Kit (PS2 / PS3)
Advantages: Fun to play
Disadvantages: Hard, a bit plastic
As I've said in a previous review one of my favourite games on the Wii is Guitar Hero world tour and when we bought this a few years back we went for the whole band bundle which included guitars, microphones and a drum kit. The game then allows you to play these songs using all the instruments either against each other or against the computer. If you've had a bad day I think the best medicine is to get on this drum kit and bash the hell out of it.
The drums are not my favourite instrument in this game as I much prefer the guitar and playing the tune but it is quite an authentic little piece of kit and if you fancy yourself as a budding drummer in a band then this is the game for you.
The drum kit came in parts so you had to assemble it yourself but it was very easy to put together. Be aware though that it does take up quite a bit of room so you need to have a space for it if you wish to keep it assembled or be willing to take it apart after use. Basically the kit has a moveable stand which allows you to adjust the height to the person that is playing it. I find it's best to play sitting on a stool as a couch is often too low to reach the drums comfortably. A dining room chair works well too, anything that gives you a bit of reach to get to all the pads on time. Obviously these drums are made out of plastic so they do look quite fake compared to a real drum kit but in terms of a accessory for a video game I think these are well made and a really good product.
The drum hit has five pads which are all different colours and which coordinate to the notes you see on the television screen. The top two pads are the cymbals and the bottom three are the drums. You also get a foot pedal as well which appears on the screen as a long purple line. The drums have a quick response time when you play the note corresponding to the note on the screen so you can be quite in time to the music and hit your notes and hopefully win the game playing these drums.
The drum kit is great although my only complaint with it is that when you hit the drums (pads) they do sound rather plasticy and not that authentic. The cymbals make a tinging noise on the screen but it does still sound a bit plastic because in reality you are hitting plastic and not real drums. The drum sticks are wooden and really great. They make a perfect drum stick sound when clicked together and are quite fun to play with.
I say that this is not my favourite instrument in the bundle as I think they are really quite hard and I think I have quite good rhythm. In the easy levels the drums are a bit repetitive because you just play the same note over and over again but when you get to the harder levels it gets really hard. You almost have to be like a professional drummer with arms all over the place playing the drums at about 100 miles an hour but if you can do that I'm sure its great fun.
All in all this is a fun accessory for the Wii guitar band game.
