I bought this controller last year as I wanted to start PC gaming. I had always been a console gamer so could not get used to the keyboard and mouse setup and needed a gamepad. As I am not a hardcore gamer I went for a cheap USB option as I did not want to break the bank to play online then discover I still preferred console gaming.
As soon as I received the gamepad, i plugged it into my PC hoping to play a game of Team Fortress 2. However, it turned out that the gamepad was not compatible for the game by default and I had to try and map keys onto each of the buttons using third party software. This was frustrating and time consuming and I eventually gave up after some of the buttons were not recognised and neither of the analogue stick seemed to do a thing at all.
After giving up on PC gaming because of the pad, I turned to using it as a secondary controller for the PS3. This came with a host of problems too. The cable was far too short and I had to sit directly next to the TV and PS3 to play a gae, obscuring other people's views at times. The responsiveness of the keys wasn't great which led me to losing many kills in Call of Duty against my friends who were using official SIXAXIS controllers (I am nice, I gave them the better controllers). The worst part by far was that the analogue sticks would stick in position, they would not spring back, this meant that I would literally have to pull the stick to the centre to stop- moving/aiming. This made it impossible to play.
Firstly, if you are used to Playstations - then don't expect anything different with this. It is essentially modelled on the same Playstation platform, and there are no surprises about how it works.
The buttons which were previously designated shapes are now numbers, and they actually have a very solid feel despite the price. The D-Pad is a little clumsy, but the two analogue sticks work as you would expect and have never let me down.
I was a little dissapointed by the lack of triggers at the back of the controller, and a stronger force feedback option would have been nice but you would have expected to pay a lot more for that. The vibration is responsive but relatively weak.
To summarise, I would say that the strength of this controller lies in its ease of use and price. It is very easy to use and install, and reliability is fantastic. Also, somewhat to my surprise, it is fairly sturdy. I would definately recommend it for a budget buy!
