A great fighting controller for people who like fighting games!

For the money, the fightpad is a great little pad and does the job quite well for fighting games (you can use it for more than just Street Fighter).

It has an enlarged D-PAD and makes it very easy to perform moves. It contains the standard arcade stick button layout of the punch buttons in a line at the top and kick buttons in a line at the bottom. The face buttons are very easy to access and I have been able to perform many a shoryuken with Ryu and make many ultra combos happen through the ease of use.

The fact that the Pad is powered via USB (rather than the PS3 version which is wireless and requires two AA batteries), which makes the controller's response time a lot faster! This is essential within fighting games!

The 'RB and LB' buttons are on the back, allowing you to pull of Ultras to your hearts content. The art style is also something to be said and there are a multitude of art from different characters.

These include C. Viper, Guile, M. Bison and others! Since they are developed by Madcatz, the controllers are extremely well designed and mine has lasted me absolutely ages (and many tournaments).

They aren't perfect however and if you want perfect execution of your moves, then get a fighting stick. Apart from that this does the job really well and you just can't complain about the price!

This is a good controller and fairly reasonbly priced in some stores

This is the street fighter 4 Mad Catz Fightpad. This is a fighting controller that has been purpose made for Street fighter 4. The directional pad uses an 8 way floating piece of plastic to allow slightly quicker diagonal movements

The button layout has also changed the standard A.B.X.Y buttons have been made bigger and most noticbly the RB and RT buttons have been removed from the top of the controller and next to the A.B.X.Y buttons this allows much quicker use of complex combos and Ultra Combo attacks. But by moving the RB and RT buttons that means there is only 1 set at the top now there is also additional multi-speed Turbo functionality
built in and headset output jack for Online play.

The controller is smaller then the standard x box 360 controller and is fairly comfortable to grip even for prolonged sessions. Also you may of notcied on the controller is an Image of the a Street Fighter character Chun Li, but you can also get this controller with an image of Ryu, Ken, Blanka, Dhalsan, E Honda and Cammy. Which is nice little extra if you want a bit of personalisation

I have seen this Fightpad being sold at HMV for £20. But prices can vary what I noticed in a store the price of these were increased when super street fighter 4 was realeased

This controller is also makes other fighting game better to play as this is more specialised controller for fighting games. As fans will say the 360 controller is quite a bad for fighting games

      Get kinky

Having said these were only for people who get all kinky about street fighter in my review of the game. I went out and bought one!!

When these controllers first came out they were around £60 each. Now that the hype has died down they have fallen loads in price. I picked mine up off ebay for £20 with free postage. I went for Chun Li as they seem to be cheaper.

For some reason I have selected the xbox version to review whereas I mean to be reviewing the PS3. The only difference is that xbox is wired and the PS3 takes batteries so i`ll continue.

First impressions of the pad is its size. It is quite chunky and feels comfortable with rubber grips underneath. The buttons feel solid and the d-pad has a nice slackness to it. The buttons are also well placed allowing you to be able to press 2 at once for things like EX moves and focus attacks.
I wasnt overly impressed with the turbo button. I selected chun li and tried to cheat the quick kicks move but it was having none of it.

I would say it has improved my game, it took a little while to get used to but once you do you will find mastering all those tricky moves and combos a lot easier. I personally could never get on with using the shoulder buttons and its nice to have the proper layout.

On the downside it is really only compatible for fighting games. While there is a button to allow you to use the dpad as a left or right analogue stick. Most games use both analogues. I can just about use it for Little big planet but i cant aim the paint gun.

Obviously you have to be a bit of a street fighter nut to justify buying one, but if you are, get it.
