Advantages: Can be fun, required for some games
Disadvantages: Glitchy, badly made and annoying.
This sensor is required for certain xbox 360 games and improves others like Forza 4 that work with it for things like Auto Vista mode. The sensor can be used in pretty much any room of the house but does need a little space to play.
The sensor is sometimes glitchy and inaccurate, often pausing the game despite me being obviously within range of the sensor. It does this because it flicks about the "skeleton" on the sensor, and makes it move about when i'm not doing anything. Calibration does sometimes help but the problem persists and requires a fix several times a week.
The sensor is easy to set up but takes time. They do provide you with a smiley face on a card to help calibrate your Kinect but this doesn't help the fact that it messes itself up. For example, it automatically looks to the floor for no obvious reason. I have to manually move it up and down in the tracking menu because it's so thick it can't do it itself.
When playing this can be a pain to use. There have been many times where I've punched blocks perfectly on Your Shape FE and because the kinect didn't track my arms properly or make any attempt to actually bother watching my arms cross down instead of across my body, it doesn't always register.
The sensor is made from thick plastic but it does scratch easily and collect dust. Cleaning the little vents either side is a nightmare, they're so small and fiddly that dust quickly builds up and it takes a long time to get out. If you accidentally knock it sometimes it locks in place with a red light and has to be re-calibrated for the ten billionth time.
It can track two players at one and I have actually found that this works quite well. If someone suddenly joins in your game it can detect whether they are just moving through your play space or whether they want to join in. On most menus you do need to hold your hand up and hold it in place if you want to select something but equally because its so glitchy it can take several minutes of accidentally pressing the wrong menu's before you get to the one you actually want.
Overall this is just a gimmick. It was designed to make Microsoft money. It can be fun and yes it does work sometimes, but its incredibly glitchy, badly made and isn't that practical. I hope Kinect 2.0 is an improvement, as this barely scrapes 2 stars for me.
Summary: Recommended for Kinect only games but it can be a pain in the backside at the best of times.
