Advantages: cheap, fairly easy to use
Disadvantages: analogue control is not ideal, poor for N64 games
The wii classic controller is a bit of a mish mash of the last couple of nintendo console controllers.
It looks a bit like the old SNES pad, and apart from being a little bigger it is pretty similar.
There is no rumble with this pad, and I think that this does detract from your gaming enjoyment, especially when playing N64 games on the virtual console download service. How can you play Starfox 64 (Lylat Wars) without rumble??!!
In general its a pretty good little pad, but I think that it would have been better of they had brought out an adapter which you could have plugged an actual SNES or N64 pad into, because when you play zelda ocarina of time on virtual console, you will find that theres just something missing from the gameplay, as the N64 was as famous for its controller as the wii is for its wii remote.
For SNES and other console games on virtual console, it works fine, but when analogue pads need to be used in a game, it gets a bit uncomfortable.
In summary, its pretty good value for money, but lacks the nostalgia that most of us old school gamers crave.
Lets hope ninty bring out something a little better next time.
Summary: good but not brilliant

Kalmaholic - 06/08/08 Pretty good review of the classic controller. I remember when I was stuck deciding on buying one or not. But when I finally decided to get one, I have to say it was completely worth it for the Virtual Console.
I also found it to be really comfortable. Great controller in my opinion. |
