Advantages: Really well-designed, great fun.

Disadvantages: Expensive, not that accurate at weighing.

This is the Balance Board used for Wii Fit, one of the most popular and enjoyable games on the Nintendo Wii, and possibly the one I get the most use out of. Basically, itīs a motion and pressure sensitive device that transforms your movements on the board into actions on the screen - so for example, in the snowball throwing game, you can lean and duck to either side on the board and your character will hide behind barriers, whilst in Tilt City, the direction in which you lean will control the platforms on screen, changing the directions of the marbles which fall from the ceiling.

This is a really clever design, and it works really well with the game - it always detects the movements youīre making, and it feels very accurate in the way that it translates this into on-screen movements and actions. If it wasnīt so accurate, Wii Fit and other games would be a really frustrating experience, but as it is, this is one of the things which really sets apart the Wii from other consoles.

Itīs very easy to use, and can be set up very quickly without having any particular knowledge. It takes either a battery, or can be connected to the mains power. However, I find this second way is much less effective - often, it seems to use more power than itīs getting, and will stop your game to tell you itīs out of power. Iīm not sure if this is a general thing or something with my product, but itīs something to be aware of, and I think the battery is a better way to power it.

The board can also be used for weighing you, and Wii Fit does this at the beginning of every game. This is in my opinion more fun than anything else, though, as the results seems enormously innaccurate at times - Iīve gained and lost seven pounds in one normal day once according to this (and I really didnīt eat or exercise that much!), so I wouldnīt rely on it. The only other negative is the price, but for something that works as well as this, and is as fun to play, itīs well worth it I think, and youīll get lots of enjoyment out of it. Overall, I think this is a great piece of gaming equipment, and I would certainly recommend it.

Summary: A great Wii product.
