Advantages: Great fun
Disadvantages: Not for hardcore fitness fanatics!
I bought a wii fit to use at home rather than venturing out to the gym or using fitness DVD's. Initially I only used the game it came with. The wii balance board can weigh you and give you a 'fitness age' based on your response to some simple challenges involving balance. The more time you spend playing the wii fit game the more excercises you can unlock. The yoga section on the game is fun, it's not too strenuous but it is great if your like me and not very fit. There is also a section for fitness which has lunges, squats and crunches. I found this section the most challenging out of the whole game. The more hours you rack up on the wii fit the more reps you can choose to do. If you are looking to get fit then this is not really the best way, it's fun and a good laugh in a group. If you are looking for something more challenging I suggest getting EA Sports Active. The one section I really liked on the wii fit game was the stepping section, you use the board as a step and you can choose how long you would like to step then turn the TV over to watch something else while the wii remote prompts you to step. This is fab as you can watch Eastenders and step for 20 minutes! The only problem I had was that the wii fit board was not high enough off the ground to make an impact. However I have since seen that you can buy blocks to put under the wii fit board to make it higher! This does work the legs and the bum a lot more!
I would recommend the wii fit for someone new to fitness or perhaps a mum who doesn't have the time to go to the gym but would like to excercise at home. It's definately worth the money. I would however recommend investing in a rechargable battery as normal batteries seem to run out quite quickly and this can be costly.
Summary: Great for people who want to work out at home and are looking for gentle to moderate excercise.
