Nintendo Wii Fit Balance Board
Advantages: Looks nice, works really well and gret reactive times
Disadvantages: Wish there was more games that use it
The Wii Balance Board was introduced by Nintendo in 2007 and was an instant hit. We scoured the shops and internet for one and it had sold out within days of its release. We finally found one on the Game website which came as part of a bundle with the Wii Fit game. You can now get these for under £100 from Amazon, Play.com, Game and many more but but at the time out package was well over £100.
The board is white in colour and is the size of large catalogue -a Next catalogue comes to mind. It has 4 pads on the bottom on each corner that raise it a few cm off the floor. It is white - you can also buy it in Black now - and is in a stong plastic. It takes 4 AA Batteries and I would advise using rechargable batteries as it seems to get through standard batteries quickly. Rechargable batteries seem to last much longer and you can now buy recharging packs for the board as well. We bought a protective cover for our board as well just to stop it scratching and this offers more grip so I would recommend getting one of these.
The Wii Balance Board syncs with your Wii wirelessly for first use the same way your Wii Remote does. It has on button with a blue LED to show when it is on. The Wii board turns itself off if you don't use it for a few minutes.
The board was an accessory developed specifically for the Wii. It uses a pressure sensitive thats picks up movement, weight and any shifts in balance so when your playing a compatible game you can really get invoved with the game playing. It reacts quickly to your movements and picks up the smalles sfhifts in weight. It works extreamly well with the Wii Fit and Wii Fit+ games and also I have found the EA Active games also use this board well. But there does seem to be a limited amount of games that are catered towards it. Its processing of information is immediate. It never loses its connection to the console, but does switch off if you leave it a matter of minutes, but if you switch it back on it registers straight away.
It really makes you exercise more and is great as a follow on from Wii Sports. It allows you to do Yoga, Step Classes and Balance games while registering your every movement helping you to tone, exercise and improve your balance
The board is very easy to install, you just sync it to your console and insert the game. It is very easy to use aswell and you simply stand on the board and follow the games instructions. It looks nice and sleek, it matches you Wii console in its gloss plastic design. It is very slim and sill easily slide beneath your TV stand etc, but despite its thin sleek design it is very strong and sturdy!
Summary: A great addition to the Wii to give you even more exercise
