Official Wii Wheel giving good control on driving games

Having loved Mario Kart for DS, I wanted to get Mario Kart for the Wii so had to get a second wheel for the second remote so boyfriend and I could easily race each other. The Official Wii Wheel came with the game but also having the Amazon Basics Steering Wheel official licensed by Nintendo, it gives and easy comparison for both products and their performance even against not using a wheel at all. The official Wii wheel is a complete wheel with the wide hole for the strap to hang through, the B button on the back and the sensor window at the side. The Wii remote fits snugly into the centre of the accessory. The remote can still be used normally by having the sensor facing the bar which I sometimes do to navigate the menu and then turned to the side for driving. The Official Wheel is weighty compared to the Amazon Basics (AB) wheel but playing for long periods of time doesn't make my arms tired because it's easy enough to tuck your elbows into your side or have the wheel angled more than holding it up. The sensor picks up the signal well even at the side if your fingers are slightly covering it to be able to press the B button on the back. It's not quite a realistic as driving a real car mainly because the wheel is pretty small and your hands can't be at the 10 and 2 position - I tend to hold it more at 4 and 8 and even 2 and 8. Just having the wheel without any support for it makes it a very different experience too but it doesn't take a lot of practice to get used to it. The wheel itself doesn't have a lot of grip with the smooth plastic but it doesn't really affect game play. My fingers can easily grip around the wheel and having the centre section rests the wheel on your fingers for good control. The only part of the wheel I'm not so keen on is the B button at the back because it protrudes from the wheel and only takes the lightest touch to activate it during the game - for this it's a positive thing though because you're not having to stretch your finger to hit it. From the menu, B is always the cancel/back button so pretty much every time I've put the wheel on the floor before playing another track it's taken me back in the menu. Not a huge problem and actually compared to the AB wheel the B button is actually a benefit because it doesn't pop the controller out of the accessory while playing. When playing the 50cc rounds on Mario Kart the wheel helps you glide through the circuits easily with good control but upping it to 100cc and 150cc I always find I'm turning the wheel 180-270 degrees back and forth to keep control. This is the same with both of the wheels but I don't tend to do it as much without the accessories. The wheel can be used with other games but we've not got any at the moment we can use it with. Price wise, I would recommend shopping around to find the best price for the Official Controller because I do prefer it to the Amazon Basics wheel which is currently priced at just under £10. It's not a necessity so to get your moneys worth I'd only want to pay £5-£10 for the Official Wheel. The Official Wheel is a lot better quality and although the B button is a downside it does become one of the positives when comparing it to the AB wheel and having no wheel at all. If you did need to buy a second wheel I'd recommend this over the AB.

An accessory which helps youngsters though is not really needed

Official Wii wheel Having recently bought a Wii, we have been borrowing games and equipment to keep us going until we can purchase games and such for ourselves. We do have a few games, though, and one in particular is Mario Kart which both myself and my little one love. At first we simply used the remotes on their own to steer our cars and bikes which worked absolutely fine for us apart from our little one kept twisting the remote at the wrong angle and therefore making it difficult for her to drive the Mario cars in a straight line (if at all at times!). Due to this, I decided to look online to see if I could find a Wii wheel which would hopefully help her. I looked on Ebay and managed to find a wheel for £3.50 which was great. Once we got it home, we popped the remote into the remote area and we were off. The wheel is simply a bit of white plastic shaped like a steering wheel with an area on the front to fit a Wii remote in snugly. Due to the fact that this is all it is, and the fact that (as mentioned) you do not actually 'need' this wheel to play the game, I did not want to pay too much and the price I paid was a decent price. Amazon have this wheel for just over £7.00 at the moment new. Obviously, this wheel is not just for Mario Kart and can be used with any other Wii driving game. I have not tested this out on other games yet, though I would say that it would probably work exactly the same. The wheel helps my little one hold the remote in the correct manner for the driving game and has improved her game play. For myself, I see no difference in game play whether I play with the wheel or with the remote alone. The main thing with this wheel, in my opinion, is an added accessory to add to the fun, nothing more. This is the basic design of Wii wheel. You can also buy this in black and also in slightly different designs, though all do the same thing. Do I recommend this item? If you can purchase it for a decent price, then go ahead. It helps the younger ones with their accuracy of driving, though I do not feel it is a necessary accessory.

I bought this for my daughter off Ebay and it cost me just £2.45 which also included postage and packing. I did actually buy this in pink so it is available to buy in different colours. How to use ========== You do not need to sync this to your wii, as it does still run off your wii remote, to set it up all you do is push your wii remote sidewards into the hole in the middle of the wheel, which is just the right size for your wii remote, and thats all there is to it, once thats done you are all ready to use it. To take it back out again you just push it from underneath and it slots straight back out again. How to use it for racing ================== When you are racing with your wii remote, you must hold it sideways, which is why you have to put your remote on the wheel in this position, then it works just like a wii remote, you have easy access to all the buttons you will need to use, and when you want to go round a corner you just turn the wii wheel, like you would in a car. The wii wheel is actually quite light to use, its only that little bit heavier than the wii remote, but dont forget that is in there too, so it is still pretty light. My overall opinion ============== This is really easy to you and I do think it is easier to use than the wii remote, as it is bigger you can judge the corners more better rather than turning the wii remote too much as I always tend to do. My daughter also found it easier to play when using this, so I would recommend buying one, as they are cheap and it makes the racing games a lot easier to play.

A great advance for any racing game on the wii.

I remember the date I got the wii wheel. It was 18th of April 2008. I only remember it because it was probably one of the best days of my so far relatively short life. The day Mario Kart Wii was released in the United Kingdom. One of the major selling points for this game was the wii wheel that was bundled with the game. This means that I have been using this accessory for over 3 years now and I have never once found a problem with it. There's not much that could be wrong with it, it is essentially a plastic circle, but I have found that it is incredibly helpful for not just Mario Kart but many other wii games, such as Excite truck and Formula 1. Racing games can be quite difficult to play if the controls involved holding the wiimote like a steering wheel so I find that this is a great aid, even if it is just a hollow, round piece of plastic.

Such a simple piece of equipment but makes driving games better!

When I first bought my Wii console, I was a bit ecxited, and also wanted every accessory I could find to go with it! One game everybody raved about was Mario Kart, so I was desperate to give it a go, but before I did, I wanted the full experiance of using a wheel with it. After a bit of searching around on the internet, I got even more excited when I found a wheel that was pink, so being the girly girl that I am, I had to have it! I had never really seen a Wii wheel, and I was surprised at how cheap I was finding them online, I only paid £3.50 for mine!! I didnt see any for more than about £7 while I searched. Being a little naive, I had kind of been expecting the wheel to be, but I imagined it to be some great piece of technology - so I was very surprised when it arrived, and thats when I thought, ahhh, what a clever little idea that must be pretty cheap to make but makes game play a little bit more exciting! The wheels are quite small, perfect for kids to use but not too small adults cant use them - I have no problems holding it, and neither does my husband who has fairly big hands! They are shaped exactly like the maller version of a cars steering wheel, except theres a rectangular 'hole' across the centre. This is where your Wii remote slips into the wheel. At the end, there is a small hole, which is where the end of the remote with the sensor goes so it can still be picked up by the motion bar. Theres a gap in the back so you can still have access to the B button on the controller, and a little pushy button which raises the remote up a bit to make it easy to remove it from the wheel. It really does make game play more fun and less tricky, its easier to play a racing game with a round wheel rather than a rectangular shaped controller! The ease of steering is great, although having the remote in the wheel sideways does take a few goes before you get used to it, it tends to bring the 1 and 2 buttons on the remote into use a lot more than when playing other games. It really is like using a steering wheel in a car, you just twist and turn it!

          Brilliant addition to racing games

We got the wii wheel as part of the mario kart game. It only comes with one wii wheel and we have two remotes and were hoping to play multiplayer so we needed to get another wheel. When we went to get one my partner decided he wanted to buy Formula One which also came with a wheel so we decided to make do with that one rather than buy another one. Therefore, we had one wii wheel and one Formula One wheel. However, if you do wish to buy a wii wheel they sell for around £6 now. They are quite a bit cheaper online from places such as Amazon as game shops charge nearer the £10 mark. The wii wheel is essentially a bit of plastic which you insert the wii remote into to play particular games such as Mario Kart (we also use ours for when we play multiplayer on F1). It is easy to get the remote into the wheel, you simply take off the wii jacket and the wrist strap and slot it in the gap. The wii remote fits perfectly in the gap and the buttons line up with the buttons on the wii remote. To use the wheel is really easy, you simply use it like you would a car steering wheel. The wii remote is sideways in the wheel and you use the buttons to make selections before racing, however once you are using the wheel to steer then you only need one button which is the B button which is easy to press when using the wheel. I find the wheel great fun. It makes playing games such as Mario Kart so much easier, I had a go on Mario Kart at at friends house before without a wheel and I found it ever so difficult, I kept oversteering and understeering. However, with this wheel it is really simple and I find my steering to be much better. Your movements are reflected really quickly on the screen and I have never had a problem with the wheel not doing the same on screen as it has in my hand! I have found that everyone can use the wheel, my niece has one at home and she is fine with it and even my mum had a go (who is rubbish at games!) and she found it relatively easy. I think this is the best wheel on the market, I prefer this one to the F1 wheel and always opt for this wheel when we play. It makes games really fun and makes them much easier and the wheel is great value for money. Recommended for family fun!

Steering wheel shaped housing for Wiimote - ideal for racing games

It's quite often the simple things that add to the amount of fun you can have with a game. Essentially just some well shaped plastic, this steering wheel is specifically designed to give a more real experience of playing driving games with the Wii, and I find it does just that. The Wii uses a remote controller that is wireless operated, enabling the user to be more active when playing. The controller, known as the Wii remote, or Wiimote, connects to the game box through a sensor, meaning you can stand anywhere near it you like and be active whilst playing. With driving games, you often have to have the Wiimote on its side, horizontal, holding it in both games and turning it imagining you have a steering wheel in your hands. This accessory is specifically designed to house this remote and maintain the wireless connection, giving it even more reality at the same time as not limiting the connection and precision that you'd like to get from the interactive controller. The wheel is pretty basic. You simply slot the Wiimote into the rectangular slot in the centre of the wheel, which has a gap at the back to feed the wrist strap through. It's always a good idea to wear the wrist strap, even if you're playing a driving game which may not be as jerky and swingy as other games. The more you use it, the sweatier your hands can get and on some games, if you're really struggling to 'throw' the car round the corner, you'd be surprised how much you find yourself moving. I've almost dropped this a couple of times, and I know my son has let it clatter to the floor, so we tend to use the strap for safety's sake. It's quite durable, though. The plastic may not feel like much, but it manages to survive quite a few knocks. My son has this thing about using things to see how well they fly through the air, and hasn't quite grasped the fact that things can break when they're not soft. It's quite a good test. He learned pretty quickly that the Wii accessories aren't toys to play catch with, just toys to help playing on the Wii, but not before it had boucned a couple of times. The plastic seems very durable, yet it's not heavy at all. It's quite lightweight in fact, and even after playing for quite a while, your arms don't get overly tired from having held a steering wheel up for a long time. Like I said, it's the simple things that can make or break a game, and having a housing like this to make racing games seem more realistic really does make a difference. It's a cheap thing to acquire, and should only cost around the £6 mark if you're looking to get it, or even as a present for someone else. For such a small one off cost, it's well worth the extra game enjoyment factor it can offer. Recommended.

Cheap and useful item for the Wii console

When the Nintendo Wii came out I wanted to see games which had they own items included and with Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii you had your own steering wheel which was accompanied with it. This 309 gram steering wheel is great and lightweight and does have the look of a racing car steering wheel. The item is good because the Wii remote fits in perfectly inside the centre. At the back is a hole to use the wrist strap. You sort of have the control put in place which will attach itself securely and then you secure the wrist strap to your own hand and it is then perfect. When you have attached the Wii remote to this wheel you might assume it is useless because you still need to move the control around the screen to click on various destinations you wish to explore. There is no wires so it means you rely on the signal from the wheel to the console itself and the connection is fantastic. You use all the buttons you want for the Wii remote easily because of the design of the wheel. One of wheels I own is fully circular meaning you have ways to hold the wheel whilst pressing buttons at the same time should you need to do this. This wheel can be used for other games as well besides a racing car game such as Mario Kart. The Wii with Mario Kart is fully circular however. There is also many other designs around as well and some are fairly good and offer the same sort of controls and durability as this one can. What impresses me is that the people who made the Wii designed this wheel because normally a racing game requires some to turn corners using the arrow keys on the control pad. You want to feel your in control of the vehicle you are driving so this helps the console seem even more impressive then it is. I think how well it fits into the wheel as well is also very good. They are quite cheap I picked up a replica wheel for just £4 the other day as a second hand purchase in a game store so they are cheap to buy. I would say that at times the wheel can seem hard to control but this for me is down to the player. If you swing to far to the left or right the control is going to make your game play act this way as well so blaming the wheel is a pointless idea. I have never had a problem with the control or the way it handles itself. Also what helps is the fact that you have no wire out the back so it does not limit the movement you have and where you sit to play a game. I think it is a great idea and works well for any racing game.

              A fun accessory.

In some ways, this is quite a strange piece of equipment, in that it´s not at all necessary to have the Wii Wheel to play Mario Kart or other racing games, and it doesn´t actually change the game itself in any way at all, but it does make the experience a lot more fun. Basically, it´s a plastic wheel into with you slot the Wii remote, which fits quite tightly and stays in place. You then play the game in exactly the same way, but instead of gripping the remote horizontally and tilting it to steer the cars, you hold the device exactly like a wheel and "drive" normally. This is enormous fun, and if you´ve got one for every player, it makes the competition a lot more exciting and realistic. Of course, if you´re going to buy four of these, it´ll cost you about 25 pounds, which is a bit expensive when it doesn´t actually do anything to the game - I suppose it depends on how much you play racing games. If you really like them, and play them a lot, this is probably a worthwhile purchase, but for the casual gamer it really isn´t that important. The Wii Wheel is well-designed, and because the remote just slots in, you can still use it in exactly the same way - so for setting up the game and so on, you can point it, and press the buttons etc. This is a bit more fiddly when you´ve got the wheel strapped on, but it´s not too difficult. The Wheel is strong and tough, and feels like it´d last a long time. I´ve never had any problems with the strength of mine, and I´ve never seen any of them break in any way, so I´d say you´re buying a product that will last a long time, so this is quite good value. Overall, I don´t think this is one of those Wii accessories that you really need to rush out and buy, as it´s only something that makes the game a bit more realistic and fun - however, if you play this type of game a lot, I would recommend it, as it´s a nice addition to the likes of Mario Kart.

The Wii Wheel is great for adding fun, but is not the perfect solution for competitive gaming

The Wii Wheel can be used for a number of different games, but is most famous for its association with MarioKart Wii, making the game a great deal more enjoyable and fun. The wheel is a very simple and nice design with the wiimote fitting in nicely into the middle in the horizontal position, allowing you to have access to all the same buttons plus a B button on the back which connects to the B-button funcionality of the wiimote. Please note that you have to remove the Wii MotionPlus accessory before using the wheel as the Wiimote will not fit in its slot with that attachment on which can be a minor annoyance if you often play games requiring this attachment. The wheel itself does not provide for any added functionality above and beyond the Wiimote itself, but it certainly adds to the excitement and fun of playing MarioKart as your driving experience becomes a lot more real and steering is more intuitive and easy to do. It is a shame that these wheels are priced relatively high given that at the end of the day they are just a piece of plastic with a nest for the Wiimote as otherwise I would no doubt have more than one of these in the house. Despite making control somewhat easier than using the Wiimote on its own, the Wii Wheel is still significantly inferior to the Nintendo Wii classic controller in terms of handling and ability to hit all the right apexes in your hunt for perfect laps around the track. It is, however, very useful when controlling bikes as wheelies are actually easier to perform manually than pushing the appropriate button on the controller.

                The wheel for the Wii

Nintendo Wii: The wheel We have always so much fun with the Nintendo Wii especially when we have people over. It's such a great entertainment and there's always a game that everybody loves. I loved to play tennis but also Mario Kart is always fun to play. If you want to play a racing game then the Nintendo Wii wheel might come in handy! I am a little sceptical sometimes though with buying yet another fun things for the Wii becomes all these things cost quite a lot money as well do the games and I always think they are just fun for a little while. We had the wheel for a good couple of months now and we use it now sometimes, certainly not as often in the beginning when we just had the wheel. The wheel is of course great for playing a race game and it really makes it more real while playing it. It is so much fun watching other people steering like crazy with it. The wheel itself is really simple and it leaves like a normal steering wheel. It responds really good with the game and it feels much better than playing with the remote. Using the wheel is easy and you just place the remote at the steering wheel. So you have the same buttons really. It might be a little bit getting used to were the buttons are but it only takes a few times. Now the first time I heard about the steering wheel I thought it was going to be like 30 pounds but surprisingly it's actually cheap! You can get the steering wheel for around 6 pounds and that makes it even more fun! I always find the prices of accessories just too expensive especially since you probably only use it in the beginning but for six pounds I don't even mind if it only last a week! It would really recommend this one since it really makes the racing game much more fun!

Works great, reliable, fantastic for fun games, just wish there were tiny design alterations

The Official Nintendo Wii Wheel acts just how you would expect it to. It delivers solid total build quality and is a comfortable size for kids and grownups alike. It's not garish or particularly enlivening it's the everyday controller that behaves how it's supposed to, and acts it considerably well. When playing driving games like Mario Kart, the total playability of the game is higher-ranking with the Wheel, no doubt about it. One reason this didn't recieve a five star rating.... The folks at Nintendo did us all a huge favor by acknowledging they should be able to to accommodate the Wii controller's safety strap-there is a pass through hole made particularly for this function through the back of the Wheel. but, the loose end of the lash is excessively short to wear at that length, and it's too long to insert in neatly or clip on firmly anywhere. So it just flops about while you are playing, which can be a little unhinging. I guess you could take off the strap from the controller every time, but that would be quite bothersome

                  Everyone should have one

Very soon after buying the Nintendo Wii console I brought the Mario Kart game. It used to be a big favourate on a previous Nintendo console we owned and I just knew that it would be even better on the Wii console, and I was right. It's a great game and loads of fun either playing alone or as a group. The only trouble I have is that I am often playing against much better players than me and don't get much of a chance. The Mario Kart wheel has changed this a lot for me as I find it easier to control my movements because it's far more realistic than using a regular controller and pressing buttons. The wheel is very straight forward and simple to operate. You simply plug the wii remote into the back and it clicks into place. Make sure the remote is swicthed on and you're ready to go. To use you simply turn the wheel in the direction you want to go. You need to press the buttons to acelerate and brake but you are shown how to do this on the screen at the start of the game. There are of course more buttons and mroe options, but these are the basic commands. I find it so much easier to use the wheel because it is simulating real driving and the fact that you have a steering wheel makes it easier to play and funnier to watch. You don't have to have a wheel for the game, but it does make it a lot easier and funnier to play and watch and I would recommend it to everyone.

A cheap accessory in an overpriced market!

When I first got my Nintendo Wii, it came with, what is probably still, the best Nintendo Wii game, Mario Kart Wii. Mario Kart Wii is the newest instalment to the Mario Kart series, the first of which was created in 1992. However as technology in general has progressed so much within the last fifteen to twenty years, so have the Mario Kart games. The Nintendo Wii controller's main function is its ability to perform without a wired connection and whilst this works well with all games, holding a cuboid object sideways to drive a car will never quite have the same effect than that of an actual steering wheel. I was very happy when I found the Nintendo Wii wheel. The Nintendo Wii wheel, weighs 309 grams without the Wii remote attached. The Nintendo Wii remote, as can be seen in the above picture fits tightly into the middle of the steering wheel to enable easy access to all of the buttons. The back trigger of the controller also pops out of the back of the steering wheel so that it can still be used. It also fits very comfortably into the hand. The great practicality of the Nintendo Wii wheel is it's ease of use. It is simple to attach and simple to use both in game and during the menu screens which is obviously important. If one does not wish to use the steering wheel for any part of the game, it is just as simple to detach the controller. I have only used the Nintendo Wii wheel with Mario Kart Wii, so I cannot speak of its use with other games however I find that using this with Mario Kart Wii, greatly improves the game play and makes driving your car, or motorbike, a lot easier and realistic. There are also other makes of the Wii wheel including one that comes in a bundle pack, that can be purchased in most stores that sell video games and video game accessories such as; Game, Gamestation and Curry's. Most of the time these packages cost around £5.00 but also include items such as a Nintendo Wii tennis racket, a baseball bat and a golf club as well as a different version of the steering wheel. Although these steering wheels also enhance game play, I have not found a Nintendo Wii wheel as good as this one (pictured above). This can now be purchased on Amazon new for just £5.20 or used for £2.93. The only disadvantage that I have found when playing with others is that some people find it hard to control the steering wheel as it is not attached to anything. I have often seen some people overcompensating on turning the wheel and spinning it about 720 degrees which is always funny to see as it does obviously not have the desired effect. I have not personally had this problem but I have been playing computer games for a long time, since the AMIGA in fact. I am also unsure of whether the steering wheel is at fault for this or whether it is the actual Nintendo Wii controller in itself. This review is also on Ciao under the same name.

                    Good extra for gameplay

When we got the Wii two years ago we played it non stop until the novelty wore off and it became more of a decoration than a games console. Which is why when I read about the new Wii wheel I thought it would be a good time to resurrect the old machine again to test this out. I had a search online after looking in a few shops and finding them a bit overpriced. They seemed to sell for around 15 euro in the majority of places but I got mine online for just 8 euro so I thought it was a small investment to make our console fun again. Sometimes you just get sick of the same old gameplay! I also love playing racing games and thought it would work well. The wheel came in a white colour resembling a steering wheel and feels very light and plastic. Then again the item is so cheap I didnt expect it to feel like gold or anything. The Nintendo Wii controller is then placed on the centre of the wheel so its just like moving the controller when you move the wheel itself. It can be used for games with racing such as Mario Kart. This is actually used in their ads for this game and it is great fun. I would recommend buying two though because then at least you can play two player. We found ourselves having to settle with one person using the wheel and the other going solo. It is good fun using it for this game. We havent used this wheel with any other games and it may seem like a bit of a waste buying this when we can only use it for the one game but it cost so little and we couldnt resist a new toy! I would highly recommend this for Wii owners to have a bit of extra motion fun.
