Advantages: Novelty, realism

Disadvantages: Ease of use, sensitivity

The Wii wheel, which can be used for mario kart as well as other games, certainly seems at first glance a good idea.

Obviously game play has come a long way from the SNES controllers which over 10 years ago made Mario kart less realistic a driving game.

Using the actual steering wheel itself I found quite difficult at first - plugging the normal Wii controller into the wheel itself was a challenge to start off with, and when I played Mario kart at the beginning I found that difficult also.

Steering the actual characters was made more temperamental by what I considered over sensitive steering from the wheel which resulted in cars falling into revines.

I think the best use for the wheel is for those seasoned Wii players who are looking for more realistic gameplay and the novelty of actually using a wheel as opposed the normal controller.

For the occasional user I found it more like a nice gimmick which took slightly too long to get used to, and so I think I would mark it down on the basis of this. It still doesn't detract mind what a great game, system and idea - certainly full time users have nothing to worry about.

Summary: Something good for regulars, but a bit difficult for occasional players
