Having purchased a Playstation 3 console mainly for gaming I was amazed with the quality of sound and image quality you get with films which are on blu-ray disc over DVD and so I decided to ensure that I could use the blu-ray playing features of the console to the fullest but does the official blu-ray remote control really make a difference?

Pros:
This remote control uses bluetooth connectivity to communicate with your PS3 console and thanks to this you will have exceptional reception when you use this. I have been very impressed with just how good the connection is from the remote and no matter what angle I have used this from I have found the console responding to the instructions I am issuing.
The blu-ray remote is slim, lightweight and well designed so no matter if you are left or right handed you will have the fullest control over the playback of your blu-ray you are watching. The design of the buttons allows for your to be in complete control over playback with ease and I have found it to be extremely simple to use and setup so that no matter if the person using this is not someone who enjoys gaming they will still be able to use this remote.
The controller is able to switch on and off the PS3 console so that if you are watching you blu-ray in bed then you can switch off the PS3 itself without needing to get out of your bed (although I have my PS3 in my living room I have on occassion used this function when I am just being too lazy to go and switch off the console at the main button).
Providing power for the remote is very simple as it uses 2 AA batteries which are easily replaced when your existing ones have run out (no screws and things like some remote controls nowadays). The 2 AA batteries allow for this to be lightweight when compared to the weight of a rechargeable battery in the remote and as the batteries are available for a reasonable price (non specific to any manufacturer) for the life you will get from them then this is a good option to have gone for.
The remote costs you around £15 to £20 normally which may seem like a lot for an add-on but as this is a piece of kit that opens up the PS3 blu-ray playing features to the non gamer in the household then this is great value. The remote is also very well built and will last you so that it is money very well spent.

Overall I have been very impressed with the quality of this remote thanks to the bluetooth connection allowing for me to control the playback without needing to be sat right in front of the console itself. The size, weight and feel of the remote are all very good and in my opinion offer you a great piece of kit for the money you are paying for this accessory. Thanks to the black colour and classic lines this is a sleek looking remote which I am happy to leave out on the side alongside the other remotes for my TV, dvd player, Sky tv, etc.
