This is my review for the astounding Dualshock 2 controller for the remarkable playstation 2. At the time of its creation I must mention that it was the best think to be made for video games yet but now it isn't anymore but still it is not to be over looked. Analog control is characterised in all of the buttons ( has pressure sensitivity ). There are two thumb stick right in reach of your thumbs to make game play easier than ever. The feel of the controller or shape of it should I say, was definitely thought about in great detail to make it feel so good in any persons hands. The vibration Is great when your playing because it can make players of the console feel more into the game because they are feeling real vibrations because if the effect of things that are happening in a game that is not real so it really engages gamers.
Having spent years at the top of the gaming market Sony have been continuing to develop their technologies and ideas over that time and after finally releaseing the Playstation 2 which made a huge leap forward in terms of the quality of games on offer they needed to ensure that they gave you a controller that would deliver the best control you could get but did they really manage it?
The Playstation 2 controller comes in a range of colours including red, blue, crystal (also known as clear) and the main one which is the black offering. The design of the controller ensures that it goes very well with the console itself and so even when you have it sat beside or on top of the console it does not look out of place or stand out and look ugly.
The controllers are very well priced and can be obtained for around £10-£15 and as these controllers will last for years so are very much a value for money item. The controllers feel very well made and even though they are in plastic they are of a thick enough plastic that they are not going to dent and look awful after a few weeks.
The controller itself is very well designed with the triangle, square, circle and cross buttons all placed very well on the right side with enough space between them so that you can play intuitively after a short period of practice, the controller comes with L1, L2, R1 and R2 trigger buttons on the top which enable you to have a great deal of input on the game you are playing. A D pad for those who prefer to use the older style arrows for control has remained in place but the controller also comes with 2 analog thumb pads that are covered in rubber to ensure that you are comfortable whilst playing and also that your thumbs will not get sore or slip even when you have played for a while.
Dualshock in-built means that you have independent motors on the left and right side of the controller so that you get feedback on the side of the controller it relates to so that you get the most feedback out of your games you possibly can. The dualshock is something I love and I think that the fact the shock you get is able to be varied is great as it means you get a true feel for what is going on within the game.
The controller is fairly lightweight as it is wired (so no extra weight from a battery pack) and this enables you to have hours of gameplay without any pain or strain.
Overall this is an amazing piece of kit that looks great and for me offers up great value for money as the controllers are built to last. The motors in the dualshock allow for great feedback from the games and are probably the best vibration feedback that you can get. The controller maybe wired but it has a long wire so that this is not going to cause you too many problems and you can also buy an extender cable if you require it. A comfortable gaming experience is something you become used to but it is thanks to the hard work and excellent design work that has gone in to this kind of technology. I love this controller (although I do prefer the Gamecube design for comfort) and find it to be very comortable even after hours of gaming. It is lightweight enough that it is not going to cause you strain or injury even when you are gaming for a number of hours. Overall I find this to be an excellent controller that works well and allows you to get the most out of your gaming.
When i first used the dualshock controller after only having used your average run of the mill controllers I was amazed. It contains a vibration function which really enhances gameplay and adds to the atmosphere of games. For example, when you are shot or injured in a game the controller vibrates in your hand, and does similarly when you crash cars, score goals etc depending on the game. It really allows you to immerse yourself in the game more, as your character is affected in the game, it affects you too by way of the vibration.
It is definitely an innovative idea, and one that has carried on onto the playstation 3 controllers, which now have motion sensors as an addition. Aside from the vibration, the controllers are ergonomically very well designed, fitting perfectly into the hand with all the buttons being easy to reach. It is no wonder the design has been more or less the same since the original playstation model was released
If your familiar with the Playstation 2, lets face it who doesn't, then you will also be familiar with the consoles super controllers also.
With the release of the second generation of playstation Sony released newer and better pads to accompany it. The dual shock 2.
The name dual shock came about because there are two motors in each arm. Each motor has a different weight attached to them. One does the smaller rumbles the other the larger, or they can both work to together giving you a mini earthquake in your hands!
Obviously along with the new features you get the same old layout, with a d-pad and triangle, square, circle and x buttons. You get the start and select buttons and the four shoulder buttons or triggers depending on which prashe you prefer.
These pads came in glittery black, standard, or in a few colours also like red,gree,blue,white- well clear ish and silver.
OHHHH and dont forget the massive Sony logo in the middle of the pad above a small PS image too.
You can now enjoy vibrating gaming!
Well done Sony for creating the ultimate controller and making it even better!!
This new controller for the Playstation 2 replaces the old grey one which was available. If you compare the two of them you will see that the new DualShock controller has a lot more on it regarding features. This was something every playstation user was looking forward to having as it was a major upgrade.
You can now purchase one of these controllers for around the £17 mark which if you think abotu it is a really good price. I do think a good controller which feels and looks good is important when you are playing on a console.
Unlike the old grey playstation controller this has now got the analog sticks at the bottom of the controller which the user can use to move around. This controller also has built in vibration which I think is a very good feature. An example of this vibration would be if your playing on Fifa and get tackled the vibration would go off.
I think that this controller even though it has more features in it is still very easy to hold and use. In my opinion this was very key to keep hold of because sony did not want to take a step back the comfortable feel that the playstation controllers bring to gaming. Playstation however still did not change the layout of the main buttons because they knew that they worked perfectly so there was no real point in changing something that did not need changing.
Overall I do think that this DualShock controller from Playstation was a brilliant step up from the already brilliant grey controller. The added weight on the controller make the user actually feel that they have something worthwhile in their hands. If you do still have the grey controller I would without doubt recommend purchasing this one for the extra price because I think it is a fantastic controller and remains a brilliant extra for the playstation.
If you own a Playstation 2 or have ever played on one then you will no doubt know about the dualshock controllers!
These cleverly crafted pads by Sony are probably the best available.
The pad itself is black in colour with some sparkle thrown in for good measure. The pads are quite heavy but feel good in the hands and fit perfectly.
The pad contains two motors which are used to give the pad a vibration feedback. One motor is used for large and heavy rumbles the other for softer vibrations. These can be to do with anything within a game. So for fighting games when your character gets hit you will be notified with a rumble.
The pads by Sony feature their logo in the centre above the start and select buttos.
The pad consists of the usual d-pad to the left with the triangle, circle, a square and x buttons on the right which are so expressive of the Playstation name. The pads also have two analogue sticks on them, whcih can be used instead of the d-pad if required.
Then of course you have the shoulder buttons too.
Overall all of the buttons are set out in such a way that when you hold the pad your never too far away from them.
So pros of the pad - Well its perfect, all the buttons are where they need to be, the pad weight is spot on and the size of the pad fits directly into your hand with no issues. Sony thought this one out well!
Cons- It is a wired controller, this can get annoying as you are limited by the length. Thats it though.
A great control pad for the Playstation2 with no rivals coming close, buy this if you need another pad or for two player gaming sessions.
My brother purchased this control pad a couple of months a go. He loves his computer games and after playing with it I do think it is a very good game pad. Its not a flashy looking Gamepad but good to play with. It is really light so it does allow you to manoeuvre it really well. The good thing is that its very durable and that however hard you press the buttons they won?t jam. The buttons come is two rows of three with two buttons near the handle and with different start buttons. Its quite easy to get to know which button is for what and it won?t take you long to familiarise yourself with it. Also the design of the game pad means that even if you play a game for a long time it doesn?t add any strain on your hands. You can also join up to four players on the same computer which is excellent if your friends want to play. We did have a very conventional joystick to play with but the amount of effort that was required to move left, right etc did make my hands ache and in many ways spoiled my game. These days games can last for several hours so you do need to feel comfortable with this Gamepad I do feel you get that comfort. Its very easy to install on your PC. You do get a installation CD with it and all you have to do is follow the simple instructions. You can also configure the buttons for different moves so you are given more choice as to which button you want to do what. It costs £20 price may vary as it was quite a while a go that my brother bought it. It comes with full instructions so you won?t have any difficult with it. It is available from most PC retailers or even game shops. We do use it quite a lot and have had no problems with it??.touch wood. It?s easy moving not stiff like our old joystick and with some games you get really good vibration which is conveyed really well through the joystick. Overall a very durable, reliable gamepad. Let?s face it you do need a good gamepad if
you want to enjoy your game. The only thing is that the design could have been a touch better but then again you buy it to play with and not to look at.
I was used to playing a frined's Playstation with a normal controller but when I bought a second hand Playstation it came with a Dual Shock controller and I was surprised at how much it enhances gameplay. Games have adopted Dual Shock in all of their new games for the past few years and all games incorporate Dual Shock in some way or another. In shooting games it vibrates when you are shot, in racing games it vibrates when you crash and in fishing games it vibrates when you catch a fish. It is very versatile and helps the player by alerting them to possible dangers. It also adds to the atmosphere in tense games such as Metal Gear Solid when it vibrates as you are discovered by guards. The analogue control in Dual Shock controllers (technology I suspect that was copied from Nintendo's N64 controllers) can be useful, but is very difficult to use in racing games where on stick is used for steering and the other for acceleration. The only game i have found where it is useful to use in is Big Bass Fishing to reel in a fish. I do feel that Dual Shock controllers are a useful innovation, especially the vibration, but i feel taht the analogue control is under-used and slightly redundant.
First of all I'm going to say in my opinion you should stay away from all non-Sony Playstation accessories, they aren't as reliable, but even more so with controllers you should buy the official Sony product. If you've ever played using an unofficial controller you will know that the pad isn't as comfortable in your hand, and the buttons are more stiff making you less successful at fast action gaming. The only controllers to consider buying in my mind are the first Sony Controller and the Sony Dual Shock controller. The first controllers - OK, not too different from the Dual SHock controllers, but the L2 & R2 buttons are smaller, they don't vibrate and you don't have the option of using the directional stick rather than directional buttons. The Dual Shock controller has advantages over every other controller, it is official and reliable, and also it has features that the first controllers didn't have. The Vibration feature - OK, not vital to gaming but still it adds to the experience. And the option of using the left stick instead of pressing directional buttons. Well, personally I only use the stick on some racing games because I'm used to the directional buttons, but still the option of using the stick makes this controller worth the extra money. But could someone please tell me what the point of having a right-stick is? Is it ever used? If you just have a bit of cash, the first Sony controllers are fine, but if you want to pay that bit extra, buy the Dual Shock controller.
