      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Fun, but limited novelty value

This was a fairly novel idea to make and as my other half is a massive Star Wars fan I thought i'd give it a try, this pack is basically a red and blue light sabre add on to be attached to your Wii Remote control for use with Star Wars Games on the Wii Console.

      How Much does it cost:

It is available for £14.29 on Amazon, I bought it for £9.99 about a year ago during one of their regular price cuts however. It can also be purchased from other online gamestores and I haven't actually seen it in Game but would imagine they could easily order a pack for you.

      How is is used:

Place three AAA batteries in each glow sabre unit in the required area, attach the sabre to your wii remote, switch it on and play. Its easy to put together with clear instructions and will take about 2 minutes of anyones time at most.

      How big are they:

About 35-40 cms long so attached to the Wii it does feel as though your wielding a light sabre, otherwise when removed it is really easy to pack them away in a cupboard somewhere until you next need them.

      Are they any Good:

Yes and No, they are good as a novelty and I find nothing more amusing than watching too cool for Skool mates come round and then see these and spend half an hour recreating the fat kid on Youtube scenario. They are only as good as the games, which in reality are Star Wars Clone War Force Unleashed, Star Wars Clone Wars Lightsaber duels and republic heros.

With these games they are great fun, i'm not totally sure if it can be used with lego star wars but imagine it can. The games cater for use of the sabre in all aspects meaning you press buttons and fight with the sabres rather than having to stop configure your controller to move on and then carry on.

They are reasonably good in picking up movement, although it can be frustrating when you bust a great move and the controller doesn't pick it up.

My issue with this is that firstly it only has a limited impact due to a limited number of games that require it, and also when kids play it is too easy for them to get carried away and actually use them to recreate their favourite scenes, the controllers aren't built for that and this risks permanent damage to them and the Wii-mote controls!!

Overall its a good fun novelty idea which is probably worth a tenner but it is too limited to hold attention after your bored of the games and there aren't many games coming out that require these controllers.

        -

My husband and daughter and I love playing the Star Wars games on the Wii especially the ones which use the Light Sabres.

The light sabres come in a pack of two and light up in blue and red. They are a good size and pretty easy to use. The Wii remote fits into the space on the handle easily. It fits in the same way as it does into the steering wheel, tennis racket or any other Wii accessory you may have that a Wii remote needs to be fitted into.

As I said previously, the pack of 2 comes with one red light sabre and the other one being blue meaning you get to act out ultimate battles as the evil Darth Vadar or the hero Luke Skywalker. My daughter always wants the blue one because she likes to be the good one!

The light sabres do not actually do any of the hard work - it is the Wii remote which does this. Really they are just a nice addition for when you are playing a Star Wars game and a bit of fun fore role playing. The light sabres look very realistic and do make the game that little bit more fun as you do feel more like the character you are playing as.

I expected the light sabres to be a bit cheap and plastic like but I was really surprised by the quality of them. They are really strong (I have seen Daddy take a hit in the nether regions and he nearly died on the spot!) and prety durable. I was also surprised by the brightness of the lights of the light sabres. If you have the curtains pulled these really let off a nice glow. They are suitable for daytime use too and you can see them lighting up but I think they do look better when it is a little darker.

After doing a bit of reading on the box about the lighting, I discovered that the reason for the brightness is because inside the light tube there is a special lighting system which is made up of 17 LEDs.

One problem we did encounter was that the Wii remote failed to respond if it was inserted into the lightsabre before being used if that make sense. We had the same problems with the tennis rackets too and drawing from the experience with those, we worked out the best approach was to start up the game with the Wii remote out of the light sabre and then whilst it was loading the game up put the Wii remote into the light sabre.

To make the light sabres work you do need to put 3xAA batteries into each light sabre which is a bit of a bind especially when you have a daughter who likes to use them as a torch too! Though if you are just using the light sabres for the game then you should get at least 40 hours of use out of them before having to change the batteries again but make sure they are a good brand of battery otheriwse you will need to change them sooner.

The light sabres are easy to store away when they are not in use as the light tubes just deattach and you can even keep the box they came into store them in to keep them nice and safe.

I do recommend them but you can only use them for Star Wars games as they are not compatible with anything else so if you don't have a Star Wars game then these are a bit of a waste of money. They are simply a little accessory made for some role play fun and they don't actually do anything with the game other than make you feel more a part of it. They cost £15 from Amazon and I have also seen them in Game and HMV as well as www.play.com

Are you a Sith Lord or a Jedi?

Do we have any other DooYoo Star Wars fans amongst us? If so then the twin pack set of Thrustmaster Glow Light Sabres are an interesting couple of items for your collection. This quirky pack of two fun to use light sabres can be used with your trusty Wiimote control when playing Star Wars Wii games.

The Wiimote can be inserted into the space provided within the light sabre handle, in the same way that it can be inserted into the Wii Wheel or the Wii Guitar. They can be used once your game has started to have fun light sabre battles with using Wiimote wifi gaming technology.

        **********************************************************
The light sabres come as a set of two with one being a red lighting sabre and one being a blue lighting sabre. This means that you can role play as either a mean dark Sith Lord with the red sabre, or as a Jedi good guy with the blue sabre.

The actual light sabres are more for effect and fun than anything, as its the Wiimote controllers inside them that connect to your Wii and do all the hard work once you have them set up right. This then gives the game play an added sense of fun with the lights of the sabres switched on, especially if you draw the curtains a little or slightly dim the lights to make the lighting effect appear stronger.

        **********************************************************
The two light sabres come in an attractive duo box, which has a see through window and has the two sabres set inside with their sabre blades ready to be attached and used. The pack can be used to store the sabres in after use and has a handy carry handle for ease of transportation.

The quality of the two sabres is not bad at all and they are sturdy enough when in use, but are not meant for any serious wacking of your opponent, as they are more for their light show effect than anything else. The lighting effect is achieved by the use of 17 battery powered LEDs.

        **********************************************************
They need to be thought of in the same way that the Wii tennis racquets and golf clubs that you can buy are. As a gaming enhancement thats not meant to be used with any real force, but they can improve the game you are playing by giving the feel of using a racquet, bat, light sabre etc.

Connection with our Wii has at times been hit and miss. However we have worked out a way to stop that to a certain extent. You will need to point your Wiimote at the tv screen when first commencing your game. So I would recommend you insert the Wiimote controller into the space at the base of the light sabre, once you have done that. We have found that problems are minimal if starting a game this way.

        **********************************************************

Rating these as a 3 star product as you can play the Star Wars games without them. They are just a bit of fun that you can use if you want to shell out some extra cash. If you are interested in them, they can be found for sale priced at between £17 and £24 per set of two.
