Advantages: Good fun with the games its suited to
Disadvantages: Not many games
This was a fairly novel idea to make and as my other half is a massive Star Wars fan I thought i'd give it a try, this pack is basically a red and blue light sabre add on to be attached to your Wii Remote control for use with Star Wars Games on the Wii Console.
How Much does it cost:
It is available for £14.29 on Amazon, I bought it for £9.99 about a year ago during one of their regular price cuts however. It can also be purchased from other online gamestores and I haven't actually seen it in Game but would imagine they could easily order a pack for you.
How is is used:
Place three AAA batteries in each glow sabre unit in the required area, attach the sabre to your wii remote, switch it on and play. Its easy to put together with clear instructions and will take about 2 minutes of anyones time at most.
How big are they:
About 35-40 cms long so attached to the Wii it does feel as though your wielding a light sabre, otherwise when removed it is really easy to pack them away in a cupboard somewhere until you next need them.
Are they any Good:
Yes and No, they are good as a novelty and I find nothing more amusing than watching too cool for Skool mates come round and then see these and spend half an hour recreating the fat kid on Youtube scenario. They are only as good as the games, which in reality are Star Wars Clone War Force Unleashed, Star Wars Clone Wars Lightsaber duels and republic heros.
With these games they are great fun, i'm not totally sure if it can be used with lego star wars but imagine it can. The games cater for use of the sabre in all aspects meaning you press buttons and fight with the sabres rather than having to stop configure your controller to move on and then carry on.
They are reasonably good in picking up movement, although it can be frustrating when you bust a great move and the controller doesn't pick it up.
My issue with this is that firstly it only has a limited impact due to a limited number of games that require it, and also when kids play it is too easy for them to get carried away and actually use them to recreate their favourite scenes, the controllers aren't built for that and this risks permanent damage to them and the Wii-mote controls!!
Overall its a good fun novelty idea which is probably worth a tenner but it is too limited to hold attention after your bored of the games and there aren't many games coming out that require these controllers.
Summary: Fun, but limited novelty value
