Classic NES Series: Donkey Kong (GBA) ... Kong is an arcade game where, as Mario, you negotiate platforms whilst dodging obstacles to save the damsel-in-distress Pauline. I guess it s not Super Mario, since, should he fall from a great height then he loses a life (actually, he s known as Jumpman here). The NES version is not arcade perfect - it was missing one of the four stages (the cement factory level), but that s perhaps forgiveable given the console s limitations then. This NES version can actually be found in Animal Crossing for the GameCube, yet the N64 game Donkey Kong 64 features what must be a pretty accurate port of the arcade game. Metroid Fusion (GBA) ... got a rather late start to gaming, and therefore missed out on some really great titles. Super Metroid for the SNES was apparently one of them it s been hailed by many as one of the greatest games ever created, and considered by diehard Metroid fans to be the best game in the series (incidentally, the awesome Virtual Console is a way for me to catch up on the many classics I missed, but that s a story for another day). However, with the launch of the powerful handheld called the GameBoy Advance, Nintendo was given an opportunity to open up the "genre", if you will, that was defined by 2D Metroid titles. Starsky & Hutch (GBA) ... in 2003 Starsky and Hutch is a Gameboy Advance cartridge that is based on the hit seventies cop show. For those of you who are too young to remember the original series Starsky and Hutch were two American cops that drove around in a sexy red car and busted crime! They were led by an aggressive boss and often given assistance by the street wise dude Huggy Bear; and that s the whole concept in a nutshell! So, three decades later a re-make film is made with the wonderful Owen Wilson and a game to tie in with its release was inevitable.
