Army Men Advance is an isometric shooter for the gameboy advance. The storyline is similair to most army men games. General Plastro and his army of tan figurines are trying to take over the world. Throughout the game you will have to infiltrate tan bases, rescue team members, retrieve items. You can choose to play as either sarge or vikki ( a female reporter) through the game. You cannot switch character unless you start again from the beginning.

The Controls are simple. The A button fires your weapon, the B button tosses a grenade, Directional pad moves and the shoulder buttons are used to keep facing in a direction which allows strafing so you can walk backwards while shooting forwards.

There are 5 main weapons in the game these are the m-16, m-60, a flamethrower, bazooka and grenades. Your basic weapon the m-16 never runs out of ammo. Apart from the main gameplay you are also required to pilot tanks and gunboats whilst avoiding enemies and hazards. There is also a part where you have to cross a river on floating logs which is quite similair to frogger.

Upon rescuing a soldier you can use there special weapon and take control of them. Most of the levels tend to be boring with 17 of them in total. Throught the levels you must navigate bath-tubs, garages and enemy bases. The game also only sports a handful of enemies which further drags the game down with repetitive and boring combat. There is a severe lack of bosses in this game and the graphics absolutley awful for a gameboy advance game.

The games soundtrack is fairly bad following an army based fan fare music type. The voices are repeated constantly when you are hurt making the sound effects get repetetive fast and the sounds for the guns and explosions arent overly impressive either.

Overall the graphics are abysmal the story can be completed in a day and the sounds are terrible too.
