Advantages: Single player mode is marginally good near the end.
Disadvantages: Mono sound, Similair textures, Not much variation between mosters and your different weopons
Hmmmmmmmmmm. Dont be tempted with this game. So its the first "First person shooter" (FPS) for the gameboy advance, but quite honestly it sucks! I had read the reveiw from the magazine, which gave it 93% and thought "right", lets get it. So i did, MAJOR MISTAKE!!!!!
There are quite a lot of places where this game goes wrong, its a nice idea. Basically you have to travel to the dark side of the moon to combat some alien monsters. The game presents you with two options, your normal single-player game and a single player deathmatch mode.
Well, let me explain to you about the single player mode first. You start the game and you immediately think, this isnt smooth. Its actually quite jerky and takes some getting used to. The first level is quite boring and basically doesnt give you much action. You spend ages looking around not quite knowing what to do. Eventually you work it out though. You got to basically save humans who are to be converted into aliens. The first few aliens you come accross are some annoying creatures, indeed. One is a flying thing which manages to shoot you quite a lot and the others seem to be exactly the same just different appearances. The thing i absolutely hate about this game is the fact that there is no health or ammo, so you spend most of your time looking for items instead of just playing the game. The frst levels are really awful, but trust me when i say it gets better. Yes it does get better but near to the end. There is no point in this game the single player game is too hard and unless you want a mighty challenge which involves not much shooting and a lot of scouting, avoid this game! Another problem with this game is the fact that everything takes place on one flat level. There is no stairs or texture to the level. It feels like a maze because the wall textures are so similiar. You find yourself checking the map after every step yo take.
Now then, the deathmatch mode. Anyone who would hav
e played a deathmatch game will probably think that deathmatch is good no matter what game, and i agree. Not this time! The deathmatch mode isnt proper deathmatch mode but involves a really stupid idea! Basically, you got to change your character to change your weapon. Now normally deathmatch mode is really fast and furious but this just slows the pace down completely. It gets really horrible since changing your character at 1 point during the level is not only tedious but completely pointless. On the back of the box it claims that it includes two exciting deathmatch modes, Wrong the second is basically the same as the first.
Well maybe its better on link-up? Wrong again! its pointless the levels are too big or the size of a tin can. The weopons are sad and the changing point idea doesnt work.
The game was hyped up so much, its appalling even wolfenstein would have been better. I just look forward with interest to doom for the gameboy advance and wonder if it too will dissappoint. Back track is a big "no, no", if you want just out of curiosity then go for it, but it doesnt quite do what it says on the tin!
