"Cabela's Big Game 2005" is a video game released for the Gameboy Advance console in 2005 by Zoo Digital Publishing. It is a sport hunting game presented in the first person view. In the United States, the game received a rating of "T" by the ESRB panel which deemed it suitable for teenage years and above due to its violent content.

The game pits the player as a hunting sportsman who acquires trophies and other distinctions for successful killing of animals. A "quick hunt" mode is available without the necessity of playing the full career mode, which unlocks different hunting locations, and sends the player immediately into the hunt. The game is a very stealthy wooded adventure with the hunter remaining hidden behind foliage and trees in aims of luring an animal. Various calls and scent devices can be used by the player to enhance what is attracted to the player. From there, the player can use his weapon (a long range scope rifle or simple shogun for close quarter encounters) to target a "kill zone" on the animal and fire to end the hunt. Statistics of the animal will be shown on screen if the shot was successful and the player resumes play after reviewing this information.

The graphics of this title are very jittery in appearance. I felt as if I was watching a frame by frame sequence as opposed to a smooth, well animated video game. What is presented is of an acceptable standard though due to the forested nature of this video game the graphics are highly repetitive; trees, snow, rocks and other woodland features are the extent of the visual implementations. The soundtrack is also very simple in delivery. In fact, there is none. The only effects are the gunshot and call devices but otherwise the game is fully silent. This does compliment the hunting atmosphere well but does leave something to be desired.

Overall, Big Game 2005 may appeal to fans of the hunting genre on a more minimal scale. It is not something I found myself longing to play with frequently but does see appeal in shorter bursts.

Summary: Thumbs in the middle
