Issac will travel from setting to setting and assist fellow townspeople with any tasks which require doing. These tasks tend to grant Issac with items or information regarding the gang's whereabouts. Battle encounters are frequent and random. Presented in a turn based mode, players will select from either physical attacks using an equipped weapon, a...more

Golden Sun (GBA) (384 words)

Rating:

"Golden Sun" is a video game released for the Gameboy Advance console in 2002 by Nintendo. It is a roleplaying game quoted as being "the best original GBA RPG to date" (G4 TV). In the United States, the game received a rating of "E" by the ESRB panel which deemed it suitable for all ages. The storyline of this title features the player as "Issac" who lives in a rural village. This specific village is in charge of maintaining a mountain temple which holds secrets and idols of alchemy. A band of thugs break into this temple, stealing the idols and kidnapping two of Issac's friends in the process. It is up to player to ...  Read the complete review

Golden? Damn right it is. (344 words)

I've never been a great fan of JRPGs. In fact, with the exception of the Pokémon franchise, I have largely gone out of my way to avoid them. So, it was with some apprehension that I took up a friend's suggestion (just a few weeks ago) that I finally play Golden Sun and experience "the best game the Game Boy Advance has to offer". How blind I had been to ignore both this genre and this game. Golden Sun is a superbly crafted, wonderfully challenging adventure through the world of alchemy which features both exciting gameplay, a well-formed narrative and one of the GBA's most exquisite soundtracks. You take on the role of Isaac, one of a ...  Read the complete review

Golden Sun (GBA): An RPG from Nintendo! Get outta here (572 words)

Rating:

Well ok RPG's are pretty common on Nintendo machines but they are very rarely of good quality. Possibly the last good one that was made for a Nintendo console was Zelda: Ocriana of Time for the N64 and thats quite a while. But hey look at this - a fun little game for a fun little GBA, who woulda thunk it? Golden Sun was developed by Camelot who are responsible for the ever popular Mario Tennis so we're off to a good start already. The plots pretty standard stuff though. Good vs Evil... blah blah... save the world, sorry universe... blah blah collect the magical orbs etc. But when was the last time since Final Fantasy 7 that you had a well plotted ...  Read the complete review

It glitters, but is it Golden? (1194 words)

Dressing up a traditional role-playing game in fancy graphics is not a new concept, just ask Square. Yet "Golden Sun", from Nintendo and Camelot Software Planning, is the first of its type for the Gameboy Advance and, like so many other graphic showcases, is not quite as great to play as its looks would have you believe... Role-playing games (RPGs), in particular console RPGs, can only ever have one plot - you must save the world from some evil force. Golden Sun doesn't break this tradition. In fact, it doesn't break an awful lot of traditions and, especially if you are an RPG veteran, it will definitely have a large "been there, done ...  Read the complete review

Golden Sun (GBA): Is Golden Sun that hot (255 words)
by - written on 08/05/02, updated on  08/05/02 (Useful, 312 readings)
Rating:

At last a game an RPG game on the Game Boy Advance that look great. Golden Sun has many different characters, while this gives great interaction in the game, it can become very tedious because some of the characters once they start talking you cannot shut them up, everyone seems to what to give you their life story. The cut screen scenes lose there appeal quite quickly as well. But fear not if you can put up with all the cut scenes then the game has quite a good plot. Golden Sun has three levels of play ? 1. Exploring the map. 2. Looking around towns/forests/boats. 3. Battle Mode. The map is quite large and there are a lot of towns and ...  Read the complete review
