Advantages: great multiplayer action, smooth graphics, great options

Disadvantages: expensive when imported

Mario Kart first appeared on the snes way back in the early 90s. 10 years and 1 update later it is back and this time you can fit it in your pocket.

Mario Kart is widely thought to be the greatest kart racing game ever, this game has definately not let that reputation slip.

I was lucky enough to get this game on Japanese import, which, although expensive was the best thing i have ever invested in the gaming idustry.

The first thing you will notice is that this version is very much a blend of the snes version and the more recent N64 version.

The game is split in to three main sections Battle (multiplayer only), Versus (multiplayer only) and grand prix.

When racing you get a choice of eight characters all of whom drive and handle differently. Mario and Luigi are both middle weights, Peach, Yoshi and Toad are all classed as light weights and Donkey Kong, Bowser and Wario are all classed as heavy weights. The racer you choose all depends on your preferences and the type of race.

The graphics are similar to the snes version although they look slightly more 3D. The weapons are all there from both versions.

For the Grand Prix option there is a choice of 16 traks. Each track is placed in a cup. There are 4 traks in each cup. The cups are Mushroom cup, Flower cup, Thunder cup and Star cup.

When linked up with some mates is where the game comes into its own with no slow down and the choice of either racing or battling just makes you water at the mouth.

Battle mode is where up to four players link up and are placed in an arena there they use weapons to hit the other player. The players have three lives each and the one last survivor is the winner.

Overall Mario Kart Super Circuit (as it is going to be called here) is a must buy for any gamer and really shows what the gameboy advance can do.

Well done Nintendo.

ps
the game is released on sept 14th 2001.
