Advantages: Great graphics, multiplayer option, loads of tracks and players to choose from

Disadvantages: None!

Mario Kart Super Circuit is the best game available on Nintendo’s latest handheld console, Gameboy Advance. It followed after the classic SNES version and the version on the Nintendo 64. (You can unlock these tracks…read more to find out!)

The game has the same characters as the other Mario Kart games. Each character is rated out of 5 for speed and weight. Don’t just think that 5 star speed is the best though, because if you have a heavy player, you can bump into lighter players and they will lose coins. They may also be knocked off the track! When racing, you can collect coins in the track. There are 55 coins on each track, and the more coins you collect, the faster your car goes. But if you knock into someone else’s car, you lose 5 coins. The statistics for each player’s speed and weight are as follows. The first number is the speed and the second number is for the weight:
-Mario 3 3
-Luigi 3 3
-Peach 5 1
-Toad 5 1
-Donkey Kong 2 3
-Wario 2 3
-Bowser 1 5

In the one player mode, you can choose from three options. Mario Grand Prix, Time Trial and Quick Run:

**MARIO GRAND PRIX**
Firstly, you select the difficulty level. This is shown as 50cc, 100cc and 150cc. They are actually engine class, 50cc being the easiest. Then you choose your player from the list above. You cannot change you player in the cup you choose to play. These are: Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Lightning Cup and Star Cup. You can also unlock the Special Cup in each difficulty level, if you win the gold cup in each of the other 4 cups. The scoring system is very easy to understand. You get 9 points for coming first, 6 points for coming second, 3 points for coming third and 1 points for coming fourth. You don’t get any points for coming in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th place though, and you must come in the first four places to qualify for the next race. If you don’t come in these positions, you must either qu
it the game or use of your lives – but you only get 3, so if you use them all, it’s game over.

You can unlock more tracks on Mario Kart Super Circuit, which are the Classic Mario Kart tracks, which were on the Nintendo originally. To do this, you must get a gold cup in all four races in any engine class. You must then race on the courses again, but this time you must collect at least 100 coins in total. You then get 4 new tracks.

**TIME TRIAL**
In time trial mode, you just race in any one of the 16 tracks, and your race time is saved, so you can try and beat it next time.

**QUICK RUN**
In quick run mode, you just race in any one of the 16 races.

You can also play in a multiplayer mode, for which you need a 4 player multi-link cable, available for about £10. If only one person has the game, and 2-4 people have the Gameboy Advance, you can have a race, (you are all different coloured Yoshi’s) but if everyone has the game, you can play in battle mode, where each player has 3 balloons and you must try and pop your opponents balloons by shooting shells at them, or running into them.

The graphics on Mario Kart Super Circuit are the best on the the Gameboy Advance. It’s like carrying a Super Nintendo Console in your pocket! The sound is good too, with some cool music playing in the background when you are racing.

**WEAPONS**
There are 10 weapons available in the game. You can get them by running into the cube box – there are many on each level. The weapons are:

-Banana – If you use this, opponents might run into it and veer out of control.

-Star – Makes you invincible, and boosts your speed for a few seconds.

-Ghost – Steal items from other players. You also become transparent for a short while.

-Lightning – If you use this, all the other players will become small, and you will stay normal size for a short
while, so you will be faster than everyone!

Red shell – Hits the kart in front of you if it is in view.

Green shell – Goess in a straight line and ricochet off walls.

Spiny shell – Homes in on the player in first place. Also hits any kart in it’s way there!

Overall, Mario Kart Super Circuit is an excellent game – in my opinion, the best available on the Gameboy Advance. The graphics are superb, and the gameplay is as good as the Nintendo 64 version! The multi-player is excellent, and keeps you and your mates entertained for hours!
