Advantages: Excellent graphics in a huge game
Disadvantages: Yet another new version of the same game
Just when you thought it was safe to put down your GBA, along comes Pokemon Sapphire and its twin, Pokemon Emerald.
For those die-hard Pokemon fans, this game offers much cleaner game play with new bells and whistles, for example the movement of the pokemon in battle. There are also new elements to the game, contests for you to enter your pokemon into, you can become a gardener and cultivate berries, the berries can be used to mix special "pokeblocks" which your little friends will eat, giving them more strength, beauty etc to help win those contests.
This is not a short game to play, for once you have beaten all 8 gyms and the Elite 4, you are transported to another region to take on another 8 gyms. As the object of the game is to capture one of every single pokemon, you soon realise how huge a task this will be. It becomes a little disheartening when you realise that you will never be able to do this without owning every single version of Pokemon - certain pokemon are only available on certain versions - so be prepared to run several games at once in order to trade creatures and complete the game.
For the more cynical players, this is just a recycled version of all the previous pokemon games, though it has enough new and attractive features to make this a must-have for Pokemon fans.
Summary: Pick up that GBA, there are some new Pokemon to catch!
