Advantages: Excellent platforming, powerups, play as Mario or Luigi, great music

Disadvantages: Story .. again!

Super Mario Advance 4 is a platforming game for the Gameboy Advance.

The storyline follows the two Mario Brothers who are on a journey around the Mushroom kingdom to rescue the various rulers that have been kidnapped by Bowsers Koopa Kids! Well at least Peach has managed to avoid getting herself kidnapped this time around! If you expect an excellent story from this game, you are playing the wrong game series!

Again you get a hub world where you can see where you have to go to and how many levels stand in your way, with each you clear you will then be able to journey to the next one till you reach the castle, when a castle is cleared you will be able to move on to the next world.

You can once again choose from Mario or Luigi but the way it is handled is slightly differently, instead of selecting who you want on the world screen you will play as Mario but when he dies you will get to play as Luigi, this is good if you want to pass the game around if you are playing with someone else. Mario and Luigi again play slightly differently with Luigi able to jump a little higher with his floaty foot paddling jump!

The gameplay here is classic Mario, you go around levels leaping on enemies heads to defeat them, collect coins for extra lives. You can get powerups including the Fireflower so you can shoot fire balls and the Mushroom to give you an extra hit point along with some new ones like the Tenuki Racoon suit which allows you to fly for a bit and spin to defeat enemies, the frog suit lets you move far better underwater and the Hammer suit lets you toss hammers like one of the Hammer Brothers!

They have also included a power up tile system, at the end of a level you will collect one which can be like a starman, mushroom or something that will allow you to activate it at any time during another level to give you an advantage.

Graphics are very good, colourful and detailed and the music in this game is some of the most catchy yet.

This is an excellent platforming game for the Gameboy Advance, fans of Mario buy it already!
