Advantages: Mario
Disadvantages: Old Game, New platform
Mario is probably the biggest face in the gaming industry. Or, at least, he used to be. Now it is probably Lara Croft. Stupid old Lara Croft Now don't get me wrong I don't mind Lara and her tomb raiding antics but its just I like Mario BETTER.I grew up with Mario. Funnily enough my best friend at school is called the same name as the italian plumber. He is a part of my life. As a 6 year old all I can remember doing is playing on Mario land for the snes and commplaining when I had to leave the house. It was just THE COOLEST game I have ever had the pleasure to experience. For todays youth though there is the playstation 2 with its heros and heroins. What if they don't get to experience what ever one over the age of 12 who was a computer geek has tried? Things will never be the same... Well fear not my fat chum (hey! I was talking to myself) there is hope for the youth (I mean children because I am only a Teen myself). Nintendo, after releasing The gameboy Advance have also brought out two classic games for it. Mario Kart Super Circuit (possibly the best karting game ever. see my review. please. Please. PLEASE!) and the game I am writing about, Super Mario Advance The actual cartridge contains two games. The arcade classic, Mario Bros and the more well remembered Super Mario 2. Mario Bros (the arcade one) is a simple the learn, hard to finish game. There are four platform. You start at the bottom. Baddies come out of pipes at the top. Your basic aim is to jump up and hit the ground underneath them (you've got to be on the platform under the one the baddy is on to do it.) and then go and kick the body. As you progress the levels get harder and harder until, eventually, you're out of lives and out of skin of your thumbs. My top score is 201,616 and I got to level 28. Super Mario advance is the ever classic platform game. Its main star, Mario (who originally a carpenter insted of
a plumber), has three chums in the game, Peach (who used to be called Princess/Princess Toadstool) Toad (who used to be called Toadstool) and Luigi (who used to be called, well ... Luigi!). You can pick from any one of the four charaters to control on your screens. Each of these have there own strengths and weaknesses. Peach, for instance can hover when she jumps and can not run fast. Toad on the other hand runs fast but can't jump as well. At the end of each level (well most of the time at least) you face this dinosaur/lizard type thing which spits eggs at you. You have to jump on these eggs, pick them up and throw them at the dino/lizard thing. After 3 hits she dies and goes away until the next time. You think she'd learn wouldn't you... Well thats just about it but I will give a small conclusion. Nintendo obviously just saw this as an easy way to make money. In sted of creating a new game with new challenges, they just put the same old game on a different platform. This means that the game loses it playability and fun factor as most people who play it have probably already finished it on the NES/SNES. If you really love this game or haven't played it, buy this. If you have already been there done it and got the game don't bother

- 03/02/02 Good op and review of a great game, but if anyone has still got their SNES(like myself), you can pick up Super Mario All Stars on second-hand for up to £5.
This includes the game you've reviewed (as well as three other NES classics), and is a sight cheaper than the GBA version.
Still for anyone who's not able to do this, or who has not played the game before then I totally agree with your review and would recommend it wholly. |
