Advantages: Great Graphics, Great Sounds, A decent platformer

Disadvantages: Easy in places

Warioland 4 is the first platfomer to leave its mark on the G.B.A unlike Super Mario Advance which was only brought because it was the only decent game available at the time. But believe me Warioland 4 will have you laughing, crying and your fingers swollen and red by the time you are finished with it.

The graphics are the best part of the game. Now not only is Wario in glorious color, but there are small details in the foreground and background that makes the game a 32-bit treat for the eyes. You will see bees sting him, watch the backgrounds scroll effortlessly, and be amazed by the color and detail in twenty huge levels. Special effects, like Wario’s roll, fire-walking, or even his stomping when he is fed apples is strangely interesting, as are the enemies, from bats, and zombies, to bees and strange fish.

The sounds are enhanced by a new CD feature you can hunt down CDs to play different tunes. Although it is not important, it is fun, and each track is different from the next. Wario himself grunts and squawks, but never really gets off the lines he is known for. The background music is hip and has a jazzy undertone, but you won’t be hearing Dolby Surround Sound through the G.A.B’s tiny speakers.

Guiding Wario through this game is fairly easy, especially if you have played one of the previous Wario games. The only tricky parts are finding where to use his roll, and jumping into and out of small spaces. They have also added a few new moves, including the ability to charge your shoulder ramming capabilities, which makes the learning curve about 15 minutes longer. But there is an excellent tutorial that takes up the first stage of the game, and after that anything else is simple enough for you to figure out.
Wario Land 4 also has a number of timed stages one of the most annoying aspect of the game. But it makes up for it with a ton of Wario mini-games, easily one of the best features of past Wario games, and a nice
way to even out the fast-paced game play.

WarioLand 4 carries on the great tradition of the former Wario games while adding a whole set of options and features to lure in new gamers, but beware: WarioLand 4 should not be confused with Super Mario Advance. Super Mario Advance is a simple 2D platform game with lots of enemy-bashing and not a lot of variety. WarioLand 4 is an immersive and varied platform game that will pull you in and never let go. Get it now.
