Advantages: Play as Yoshi, lots of moves, quite different to the other Mario games.
Disadvantages: Basic storyline.
Super Mario Advance 3 is a platforming game for the Gameboy Advance.
This game is actually Yoshis Island and follows the story of Yoshi as he helps Baby Mario be re united with his brother Baby Luigi who is trapped in the evil wizard Kameks castle. There is actually a little more storyline in this game than the others as you will actually get some text rather explaining some things to you. Still it is very basic and cliché as Peach has basically been replaced by Baby Luigi!
Another gamplay element that has really changed is the playable character, there is no playable Mario or Luigi in this game but don't fret you get to control different coloured Yoshi but unlike in Mario Advance 2 the colour has no effect on the different abilities that Yoshi has.
Yoshi can hover in mid air for a while and has some really unique attacks that Mario never had. You can use your tongue to grab enemies and swallow them turning them into eggs! Yoshi can also fire these eggs out at enemies or use them to activate switches that you cant reach. As well as that Yoshi can do the iconic ground pound move to break through weak surfaces.
There are some cool power ups you can find in the game like you can find a watermelon and Yoshi can swallow it and fire out some seeds at his enemies! You can also suck in other things that will give you the power to breathe ice and fire! There are no hearts or any life for Yoshi, he is unable to die but when you are hit baby Mario will fall off Yoshis back and you will have to jump and grab him or he will be taken away by Kameks henchmen!
Graphics are excellent the game has a really nice hand drawn look to it, the music is strangely hypnotic though you will be broken out of your trance by the screams of baby Mario!
Yoshis Island is an excellent platformer for the Gameboy Advance.
Summary: A good platformer.
