Advantages: Graphics
Disadvantages: Gameplay, Controls
As someone who is not familiar with the "Aliens" series, I did not go into playing the game with any preconceptions about what to expect. The story of this game begins with a group of Marines responding to a civilian distress signal only to find that a freighter ship has been overrun by aliens; a typical science fiction meets modern reality plot.
The game is presented in a third person, "eagle eye" view which makes control of the character difficult. When encountering an enemy it is difficult to determine when to fire the marine's weapon, as the line of sight between weapon and enemy cannot be seen that easily. The speed at which the enemies move is also quite noticeable; some being extremely fast for the player's slower character. The controls themselves are simple, with both "A" and "B" buttons making use of the corresponding item on-screen, but determining when to use these controls isn't. As with everything, though, "practice makes perfect" and I found myself becoming more able to "aim" the Marine's weapon as I progressed further into the game.
Music and sound effects are both something I chose to opt out of, preferring the play the game without sound. The creators of this game implemented a footstep sound which quickly becomes an annoyance (a brash "clicking" noise with every movement the player makes).
Graphics are acceptable in terms of colour vibrancy and detail. I found nothing wrong with the title in that respect, but the steep learning curve draws attention away from artistic favours and make for a poor gaming experience.
"Aliens - Thanatos Encounter" is not a title I would recommend.
