There are numerous modern warfare items to be acquired, such as mine detectors and hand grenades, which all assist the player in his or her outlined mission. It basically becomes a matter of "eliminate anything that moves" as the majority of missions will be done with Sarge alone. I find movement of the character to be rather slow in this title and it can take some time to complete an assignment. The missions themselves are also ...more

Army Men (GB): Hooah! (371 words)

Rating:

"Army Men" delivers slower paced action in a very repetitive fashion. Players of this title control a green troop leader, "Sarge", and complete missions as outlined at the outset of each round. The main objective usually is to obliterate enemy forces within an occupied territory unassisted, though there are later opportunities to lead riflemen or pilot helicopters to assist with this objective. Gameplay is rather simple. The player's character is presented in an overhead view as he runs through the, initially, desert campaign using the arrow keys. Those little green plastic soldiers get EVERYWHERE! You've got Army Men games on the PC, Nintendo 64, PlayStation…soon to be Army Men games on the Dreamcast – and now, Army Men on the Game Boy. So, what's it like? It's a bit like Ikari Warriors on the Spectrum, or maybe Cannon Fodder for the Amiga. If you haven't played them, then I'll elaborate! You wander around a map with a sort of pseudo isometric viewpoint, trying to wipe out the enemy soldiers (the Tan lot). The game plays well enough, and missions where you get to drive a jeep or a tank which breaks up the monotony, but maybe there should have been more opportunities for ...  Read the complete review
