"Elmo in Grouchland" is a children's title based on the hit animated series "Sesame Street", and is also loosely based on the motion picture of the same name. The storyline is based around Elmo, one of the many stars of "Sesame Street", losing his favourite blanket in the wind and chases it in a seemingly never-ending adventure in the setting of "Grouchland".

To remain user-friendly to its target market of children, gameplay in this title is very simple. The player will only find him or herself requiring the use of the "A" button and arrow keys to work through various sections of the game. Each stage of the game is short and offers a continual change with each progressing level. For mere minutes the player could be seen jumping offer bins of smelly trash and the next "be" within the depths of a mine shaft on a rail track. There is truly no method behind level implementation and seems very random throughout the game. This, obviously, could keep the attention of a child for longer periods of time but seems questionable for myself as an adult. There are numerous objectives with each of these smaller stages but most require avoiding hazards through jumping.

Graphics are quite good for the Gameboy Color and showcased a wide range of colours throughout the title. I also found the detailing to be good and it obvious that artist spent endless effort in making Elmo clear and distinguishable in terms of "physical" features. Background and environmental features are also good but seem somewhat lackluster in terms of Elmo's detail.

Audio is this title is rather held back which makes for a good change of pace in children's games. Musical compositions are soft and sound effects even softer, truly accenting gameplay rather than overpowering it.

There is little flaw besides randomness in "Elmo in Grouchland". It is likely that a child who is a fan of Sesame Street could find thorough entertainment in this title.
