Advantages: Simple gameplay

Disadvantages: Minimum challenge

"Elmo's 123s" is an educational title based on the television series "Sesame Street". Elmo, one of the main characters of the programme, stars in this game and teaches basic numeracy and mathematics skills through the use of numbers.

"Elmo's 123s" follows clearly from "Elmo's ABCs" in gameplay. For this game, though, the setting is in outer space and Elmo is required to complete numeric games to help fuel his intergalactic vehicle and escape. These games can range some simple counting to more basic addition and subtraction with single digits. With each game, the player will see a short animation of Elmo gathering supplies for his ship; it is required to complete a series of three games before watching Elmo board his spacecraft and blast off which signals the end of the game.

Graphics seem to keep with the previous "ABCs" title and show no improvement. That is not to say that graphics were poor in the first title; this area is actually quite colourful and vivid. It is not to say that true cinematics and enhancements would be required in an educational game such as this, though, and the player should not be looking for such things in this title.

The audio implementations in this title seem sporadic compared to "ABCs". This could perhaps be seen as a positive as, like graphics, additional sound enhancement would not necessarily be a requirement for an educational title like "Elmo's 123s". The few effects that do exist include a slight bass-like sound with Elmo's movement to gather supplies and eventual takeoff.

"Elmo's 123s" would likely only be suitable for children of early years who are beginning to learn numeracy. This title does not offer any suitable challenge or replay value to those outside of this range.

Summary: Suitable for children only
