There did appear to be a slight "tapping" sound with each pass and shot but these are very quiet in presentation. Overall, "FIFA 2000" could likely suit a football fanatics need for something on the Gameboy Color console. I did not particularly enjoy the game but would have no problem suggesting this title to those who might otherwise like it....more

"FIFA 2000" is a sports game released to the Gameboy Color console. It is a football, or "soccer", game based on the long standing FIFA franchise. Players choose from numerous international teams and compete against the computer in a standard football match. Gameplay is presented from an side following view, showing the player their squadron against the opposing team from an overhead angle. Players must advance the ball down the field for shooting against the opposing goaltender in hopes of gaining one point through a goal. Controlling the squadron shows some learning curve to the camera view but is quickly mastered; arrow keys guide ...  Read the complete review

As any soccer fan will tell you, passing is key to winning. It's also key to playing. If you can't pass the ball accurately, then you might as well get off the field. Unfortunately, this game has some of the worst control to ever hit a soccer title. There are no arrows to indicate where offscreen teammates are, so making a long pass up the field requires more than a little faith that someone will be there to receive it. Pressing A to switch to the player nearest the ball often results in nothing, and combining the control pad and A to pass the ball generally winds up with the ball rolling awkwardly to no one in particular, only to be scooped up by a member of the ...  Read the complete review

FIFA 2000 (GB): FIFA BEST YET!!! (119 words)

FIFA 2000's controls set it head and shoulders above the rest of the entire sports game pack this year. The excellent manual explains controls in stages--and that's the way it should be. First, you're taught the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense. Those choices are very similar to those in any team sports game, whether it be basketball, hockey, or so on. From there, you get into more complex and refined moves, such as through-passing, heading and volleying the ball, shielding off defenders, and manipulating the goaltender. A new Hard Tackle option presents a third way to directly take the ball away from your foe in my opinion yhis is the ...  Read the complete review

I don't know what it is about the Gameboy but even though it's basic idea has been around for a while I still can't get enough of the games. I love playing football games on my PC and Playstation so about 18 months ago I thought I'd buy FIFA 99 and that was reasonably addictive and I enjoyed playing it. I bought FIFA 2000 at the end of 99 when it was released and apart from a few team changes and transfers it was essentially the same game as FIFA 99 and at the end of the day both games feature 11 blokes a side kicking a ball! Obviously there are no graphical improvements and I haven't found any significant new moves that you can perform. If you ...  Read the complete review
