Advantages: Colourful graphics
Disadvantages: Simple gameplay
"Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000" is a video game released for the Gameboy Color console in 2000 by Acclaim. It is a sports genre title with motocross racing being represented. In the United States, the game received a rating of "E" by the ESRB panel which deemed it suitable for all ages.
The gameplay of this title is presented from an overhead scrolling perspective which looks down on the race. As per racing titles, the objective is to complete the course in the fastest possible time while maintaining a lead position. There is little difficulty as far as the game goes as the implementation is considerably in the player's favour. In each dirt track there are various hills for jumping, and during these jumps the player can perform a trick for showmanship. These tricks unlock various power-ups which can be used against the opponent such as a smart bomb and battering shield. There is also a "skull and crossbones" item which temporarily suspends the racer to somewhat even the selection of items. Course design is frequently varied and offers numerous jumps and sharp turns to complete, but the process to successfully complete a race is not particularly hard. There are two game modes to choose from in arcade and tournament modes, though the tournament mode does not seem necessary. In it, the player is required to compete in a ladder style round-robin in aims to unlock characters to play with; players which are fully accessible from the start in the arcade mode.
The graphics are particularly colourful in this title. Each racer, one player and four computer opponents, features different attire which makes identification on the race course simple. The character design is identical throughout but the differences in colouring set them apart. I did not find the audio to be particularly noteworthy. The extent of the game's soundtrack is the notorious "buzz" which accompanies acceleration.
Overall, Supercross 2000 is an average at best title and does not offer considerable replay value. I would be hesitant about recommending this to prospective buyers.
Summary: Thumbs in the middle
