Plumbers, they're an interesting lot they are. Especially fat plumbers. Even more so, Italian fat plumbers playing tennis. And this is no exception. Camelot come out with another quality game. The first time you play Mario Tennis, the controls seem to be a bit simple. Firstly, only two buttons are used when playing. You press the A or B button, the controls lock into position, and then when the ball is reached, the computer will hit it automatically. Very handy. With the help of the computer, nets, faults and outs rarely occur. This makes Mario Tennis easy to pick and play for people of all abilities. So whether you are after a long session of tennis tournaments or a quick ten minute blast, the game is perfectly suited to it all. But in order to master the game, it is necessary to learn and practice the different moves. It is only after prolonged play that you can truly experience and enjoy the depth of the gameplay. The graphics are all very sharp and bold. There are 16 characters to choose from (2 of them being secret) and each one has its own special traits. For example, Princess Peach and Yoshi are both fast but have weak shots. Bowser and Donkey Kong are fat and slow but they have powerful shots. The shot can charge up to create a power shot which can devastate the computer. Secret courst can be unlocked. There are tournaments, special games and of course, multiplayer. The multiplayer is amazing. Up to 4 players can play, and it is sublime. 2 vs. 2 doubles action can be a great laugh, although sometimes a bit hectic! Battle mode is also fantastic. Camelot have made some great games in the past, but this leaves them out to dry. Will there be any more titles in the Mario sports series? Mario Cricket perhaps . . . . . .
