Mario Tennis

Camelot have hit big with Mario Tennis they have taken the same roll as Mario Golf where there is a storyline and you have to train you and your partner. Its like in Pokemon where you get experience points and move them up levels. So you have to decide do you want to make your doubles partner good and you bad, or do you want to make you good at you partner bad, or try and keep them eqaul. Its all up to you. So what does genre does it fall under sports or a RPG? Well to be honest its Both!

What’s on Mario Tennis?

There are several modes of play which are all exciting from the Great Story mode to Exhibition. In the story mode you control a guy or a girl depends and you select a partner. Once selected you go through a lengthy F.M.V sequence which tells you of the basics of the game. You start off unranked and you have to get through the junior, senior then into the versity squad. This takes a lot of doing. You have to do this in both signals and doubles. There is then an exhibition mode where you can just pick up and play. Then there is the best part, the Mini-games there are 5 too start of with but only 3 are available to play.

Can you download from the N64 version?

Yes you can. You download extra Mini-games and characters. You get an extra 4 Mini-games and 5 more characters. The new mini-games come from Wario, Yoshi and Bowser. The extra characters are the same + more.

How long will it take to complete the game?

I have been at it for 45 hours and still not there. I am doing the final cup put can not beat the person in the finals. There is also the Pick up ‘n’ Play hours not added onto that score. So all in all bout 80 hours for 100% completion of the Game.

How Would I rate the Game?

Graphics: 10/10

The graphics are great. There are beautifully mastered by Camelot. They are some off the best graphics on a GBC game that I have e
ver seen. The characters are detailed and the tennis courts are beautiful. I even have to say on how well the tennis ball is displayed. The are displayed in the consoles 8-bit chip but to be honest they look like 16 bit they are that impressive. . You would think that the GBC would not be able to cope with all the superb graphics. But it can. There is not even a single but of slow down in the whole game.

Controls: 9/10

The controls are fairly easy to learn. Control pad moves around your character, A and B buttons hit the ball. You use combos to hit the balls in different way and can even charge up shots. Your characters are all different. They can be slow and powerful like D.K or fast and weak like Baby Mario.

Music: 7/10

Sounds wise, it’s your typical gameboy color game. It's got the repetitive midi backgrounds seen so vividly in almost all Nintendo games. It does get annoying but you can always turn of sound. There are little squeaky noises when a character will speak. Perfect Dark is one of the whole games which lets you hear them characters speak. (you could read my op on that too)

Gameplay: 10/10

The story is great. You start of as a beginner in a tennis university and you have to work you way up. The characters will get harder to face and the games longer. Once you have had a match with a tennis player then you can keep him and face him again in a exhibition match. There are also mini games which are great in a GBC game as they had Pick up and play to a game. Its great for taking to work it passes away the hours.

Overall 9/10 (not an average)

I would get this game and would recommend it to any one. Its just pure gameboy genius and would expect a Gameboy Advance Release soon.
